Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly far from reaching an agreement with Micah Parsons for the star defensive player to finally sign a contract extension. The latest report from Adam Schefter during a special appearance on The Pat McAfee Show is concerning and suggests that the player could leave the team.
âThese things always can change. Situations often change at the end of August. It changed for CeeDee Lamb last year. It changed for Dak Prescott last year. This one doesnât feel that way. That doesnât mean it canât change. It feels more likely that these sides are heading for a divorce today than they would be for a new deal.â
The interesting part of the situation is that, as Schefter mentioned, Jones had no problem paying Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. However, for some unknown reason, he has not shown the same willingness to strike a deal with Parsons.
Jerry Jones and Cowboys Might Trade Micah Parsons
Jerry Jones could be preparing for every possible scenario with Micah Parsons. The most likely, according to Schefter, is that the owner will not offer a contract extension to the player and will wait for his current deal to expire in order to gain more leverage.
âNow, I donât know that it will play out that way, but that is what I see. The most likely scenario is that heâs there this year, his contract expires, and they franchise tag him. Then, after theyâve franchise tagged him, they have the ability to go and try to trade him.â

Will Cowboys trade Micah Parsons?
The Cowboys could trade Micah Parsons, although itâs unclear whether that would happen this year or before the 2026 season. After his report caused a stir on social media, Schefter shared more details about the situation on his podcast.
âYou canât get a deal done if youâre not even talking and the two sides havenât had any negotiations since late March or early April. It sounds like at this point itâs personal. Right now, both sides seem to be angry. Now, have other people put those feelings aside in the past and figured out a way to work out a deal? Yeah. I donât see that happening here. I see these two sides headed towards divorce in time. The only question is, when is that divorce going to happen, and how is it going to happen? Are they going to trade him now? Are they going to trade him after this year? Are they going to move on when? It certainly doesnât feel like these two sides want to enter a long term relationship together.â
