The Dallas Cowboys are steering their rebuild after a disappointing 2024 NFL season that ended with a 7–10 record and a missed playoff appearance. Owner Jerry Jones continues to face a situation that has lingered for months: the potential contract extension of linebacker Micah Parsons.

The offseason marked a crucial period of transition for the Cowboys, including the departure of head coach Mike McCarthy and the arrival of Brian Schottenheimer as his replacement. Along with an imminent roster overhaul, Parsons’ extension remains one of the top priorities on Dallas’ agenda.

Although team executives have expressed optimism about reaching a deal with Parsons, the talks have yet to produce concrete results. Jones knows how to handle the pressure and controversy surrounding the issue and has delivered a message that clarifies the situation.

“I haven’t talked with him in about four or five weeks, and of course, that’ll be necessary if he’s going to get a [new] contract. But he’s got a contract. That’s the point. Be sure and clear about that,” Jones said in an interview with Jori Epstein of Yahoo.

Tension continues to rise as Parsons seeks an extension that could exceed $200 million, which would make him the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. For now, Dallas is continuing to delay negotiations and allowing the current deal between the player and the franchise to run its course.
