Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers watched Aaron Rodgers’ interview on The Pat McAfee Show and, like the rest of the NFL, confirmed that the veteran is not ready to sign with any team at the moment due to issues within his inner circle.
Given this situation, rumors have surged about what general manager Omar Khan’s backup plan will be, considering he only has Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the roster.
Realistically, if Aaron Rodgers officially rejects them, the only big name still available in the market is Kirk Cousins, but the Steelers would have to make a trade because the Falcons are not going to release him.
Who will be Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback?
Kirk Cousins could be an option as the starting quarterback for the Steelers, although, according to a report by Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh would not be willing to give up a lot of draft capital for a player whose performance has declined and who is 36 years old.
“That is part of the thought process. The question would be how much would the Falcons try to hold up the Steelers for Kirk Cousins. A 36, 37-year old guy. The Steelers are certainly not going to invest a lot in terms of maybe draft capital to get Kirk Cousins, but, that would be a possibility. I would think it will be somewhere between possible and slim. I just don’t know how serious it is.”
