NFL News: Mike Tomlin confirms whether Aaron Rodgers will sign soon with Steelers

Mike Tomlin broke his silence on the Aaron Rodgers rumors, giving a clear update on where the Steelers stand. With Pittsburgh's quarterback situation wide open, Tomlin's latest comments shed light on whether Rodgers is truly on the verge of joining the black and gold.

Mike Tomlin spoke again about the possibility of Aaron Rodgers signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During an interview with NFL Network, this was his response when he was asked where do things stand right now and how fast they can get him going if they manage to convince him.

“You know, that’s certainly a possibility, but I’m not going to forecast the ‘ifs’ and the ‘whens’ regarding not only him but any potential free agent. Just rest assured that we’ve had really productive talks with him and, personally, I’ve enjoyed having really productive talks with him and getting to know him.”

Rodgers, who won the Super Bowl with the Packers, stated a few weeks ago to Pat McAfee that he still didn’t know what his future would be due to problems within his inner circle. In that situation, the veteran said that teams were free to ‘move on’ if they didn’t want to wait for him. It seems that Pittsburgh is willing to be patient.

Who will be Steelers starting quarterback?

Aaron Rodgers seems to be the starting quarterback chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers for next season based on what Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney II said during the 2025 Draft.

Rich Eisen tried to get more information by asking the head coach if the fact that they didn’t pick a quarterback in the first five rounds is a sign that the Steelers expect Rodgers to sign with them.

“Rick, I will give you the latitude to run with it because I know you anyway (laughs). We’ve had good conversations (with Rodgers). We feel good about our plan at the position. Certainly, it’s yet to be revealed at this point and I understand the angst not only in your community, but also the community that supports us. We’re excited about what potentially awaits us there, but really I have nothing to add other than that.”

In the end, although the Steelers did draft a quarterback in the sixth round, Will Howard is not projected to be the starting quarterback but rather a project for the future. Because of that, the path is clear for Rodgers.
