The saga regarding Aaron Rodgersâ future in the NFL adds a new chapter. With his final decision still on standby, all signs point to negotiations between the former Super Bowl-winning QB and Mike Tomlinâs Pittsburgh Steelers making some progress.
According to Sports Illustrated, a source close to the negotiations between the Steelers and Rodgers claimed that there was a recent contact between both parties after several days of silence. While itâs believed that there was no concrete response from the former Jets QB, the mere fact of reopening communication indicates a potential revival of the discussions.
At this moment, the only certainty regarding the situation is the concrete interest of three franchises in acquiring the services of the experienced player: the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings, and the previously mentioned Pittsburgh Steelers.
Could Rodgers land with the Steelers?
With more questions than answers surrounding Aaron Rodgersâ future in the league, many are starting to wonder what could be the ideal destination for the 41-year-old quarterback, who is now in the final stage of his career.

Aaron Rodgers #8 of the New York Jets looks on before the game against the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium on November 06, 2023 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
While itâs known that the New York Giantsâ offer to acquire the QBâs services was the highest so far, the Steelers arenât giving up on negotiations and are reportedly seriously considering adding him to their roster at a reasonable price.

If this trade goes through, a new chapter in this saga will unfold, one that involves Russell Wilson. The former Seahawks and Broncos QB has started several games as the starting QB for Mike Tomlinâs team, and with Fieldsâ departure to the Jets, the path would be cleared for him to definitively become the face of the franchise.
Mike Tomlinâs options on the table
While awaiting Aaron Rodgersâ final decision on his future, the Pittsburgh Steelers have some alternatives to consider for the upcoming NFL season when it comes to quarterbacks.
As of now, the players who would likely step in to lead the team on the field are Russell Wilson, as well as the recently arrived Mason Rudolph. Wilson is familiar with the franchise and has experience, so his starting role wouldnât be in jeopardy unless Rodgers arrives.
Meanwhile, Rudolph appears to be an excellent backup for whoever takes the reins moving forward, meaning Tomlin could feel confident about this position in the future.
