These are times of significant movement in the NFL regarding contract extensions, departures, and stability for several key figures in the league. The San Francisco 49ers are no strangers to these developments, and this time, one of Brock Purdy‘s main weapons on offense is far from reaching an agreement with the Bay Area team.

George Kittle has spent his entire NFL career wearing the red and gold, but this could eventually come to an end if no agreement is reached with the front office. The talented tight end is entering the final year of his contract, and a resolution regarding his situation seems far from being finalized.

According to a report by Michael Silver of The Athletic, Kittle and the 49ers have not yet had discussions regarding his contract situation, meaning his future in the Bay Area after this season remains uncertain.

“[George] Kittle, heading into the final year of a five-year, $75 million deal, is much more of a longshot, as he and the 49ers remain far apart in discussions about a new deal,” Silver reported.

Kittle joined the 49ers in 2017, coming from Iowa after being selected in the fifth round of the draft with the 146th overall pick. He has played a total of 125 games, scoring a total of 47 touchdowns, all of them as a receiver.

What to expect from the 49ers for the upcoming season?

The San Francisco 49ers head into the upcoming season with high hopes, centered around the solid leadership of quarterback Brock Purdy. With George Kittle as a key weapon in the passing game, the 49ers are looking to build on their offensive strengths. The talented tight end, remains a crucial part of the team’s plans as they aim to go deep into the postseason.

However, the team will face some challenges, particularly with the departure of Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders. Samuel’s absence will leave a significant void in the 49ers’ offensive scheme, forcing the team to adjust its play calling and find new ways to fill the gap left by their star receiver.

The 49ers have one clear goal for this season: a return to the Super Bowl, or at the very least, a playoff berth—something they fell short of achieving last year. With Purdy’s development, Kittle’s leadership, and a defense that remains one of the league’s best, San Francisco is focused on making another deep run in the postseason. This year, they’re determined to make sure they don’t miss the mark again.
