Philip Rivers’ former teammate lands major Netflix deal to tell his NFL story

Philip Rivers certainly had an impressive run with the Chargers, but one of his former teammates stood out so much that he just signed a multi-million-dollar Netflix deal to tell the story of his playing days.

Philip Rivers left a lasting mark with the Chargers during his 17-year NFL career, but he also shared the field with teammates who set records that are still remembered fondly by the franchise—reminders of a golden era that will soon be brought to life on Netflix.

One of those players delivered two unforgettable seasons in 2006 and 2007, earning MVP honors thanks to a string of record-breaking touchdowns—marks that remain nearly untouchable, especially without a strong-armed quarterback like Rivers leading the offense at the time.

Netflix rarely produces films or documentaries centered around NFL players, and even less often around former Chargers players, given the franchise doesn’t carry the same global spotlight as teams like the Chiefs, Patriots, or Eagles.

Which player signed the deal with Netflix?

The former Chargers star at the center of this new seven-episode Netflix series is LaDainian Tomlinson, who reportedly signed an $11.5 million deal to revisit his iconic years with the team—especially the one where he shattered the single-season touchdown record.

The release date has yet to be announced, and it’s still unclear whether Philip Rivers or other former teammates of Tomlinson will appear in the series. But given how much help he received from the team during his peak seasons, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some familiar faces involved.

How many records does Tomlinson hold?

Tomlinson holds a staggering 18 NFL records and 10 franchise records (all with the Chargers). His most legendary achievement remains the 31 touchdowns he scored in a single season—a mark that still stands. That 2006 season also saw him set the record for most single-season rushing touchdowns with 28.
