Travis Hunter had some snaps on the Jacksonville Jaguars preseason debut. After that, it was reported that he might’ve suffered an injury. A few days later, now Trevor Lawrence and the team have received an update on the wide receiver/cornerback situation.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen told reporters that Hunter sat out Friday’s practice due to an upper body injury. However, Coen said it was out of precaution. Hunter’s status for Sunday’s game vs. Saints is still up in the air.
Hunter played on both offense and defense against the Steelers. He played 10 snaps on offense and eight on defense. Offensively, he caught his both targets for nine yards. On defense, he was not as active on the box score, but he played tight coverage well. However, he received his ‘welcome to NFL‘ by running back Kaleb Johnson, who stiff armed him to the ground.
Trevor Lawrence has high hopes for Hunter
Lawrence has been vocal about how he wants to have Hunter mainly on offense. This means he holds Hunter in high regards as a receiver. John Shipley from Sports Illustrated acknowledged “they just need more practice reps together.” However, it seems the overall sentiment is the chemistry is good.

As per Lawrence, it’s expected that he plays a few snaps against the Saints. With that in mind, he would love to have Hunter on the team, at least for one of the offensive drives.

The Jaguars lost their first preseason game
The team’s first preseason game ended 25-31 in favor of the Steelers. However, the offense was decent enough. They had 339 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per play.
The defense does need more work. Allowing 31 points to the Steelers’ backups is not great. This still counts even if it’s the Jaguars’ backup defense on the field. Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph combined for 29/38 passes, 317 yards and four touchdowns. That is completely unacceptable.
