St. Louis Blues fans can breathe a little easier following the latest report on Brayden Schenn’s potential trade. The team that appeared to be in the best position to make an offer has reportedly shown no further interest, making a deal increasingly unlikely.
According to Andy Strickland, the Toronto Maple Leafs were the strongest suitor for Schenn, but they have yet to take any concrete steps. “Toronto has the pieces to make a deal for Brayden Schenn but as of now haven’t put a package together to make it work,” Strickland wrote on his personal X account.
Even more reassuring for Blues fans, Strickland’s sources have indicated that a trade to Toronto is highly improbable. “Told, at this point, a deal with the Maple Leafs is unlikely. Could change, but as of now doubtful,” he added. Schenn has been a key part of St. Louis’ roster since joining the team in 2017.
Earlier in February, Spittin’ Chiclets had reported that both the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights were keeping an eye on Schenn. However, that speculation ultimately fizzled out, proving to be nothing more than a rumor.

Brayden Schenn spoke about a potential trade
Brayden Schenn, 33, is pragmatic about trade rumors, acknowledging that “you really never know” when it comes to being traded. Despite loving his time with St. Louis, he understands that “it’s a business and that just comes with the flows” of the team’s position, currently five points out of the playoffs. With three years left on his contract at an annual salary cap hit of $6.5 million, Schenn remains focused on his game.

As the trade deadline looms, Schenn points out that “some people make rumors,” and emphasizes the importance of taking things “a day at a time” and concentrating on playing well. His experience with unexpected trades has taught him to stay grounded and adapt to the business side of hockey. For now, his main goal is to play his best and support his team.
Schenn strong stats with St. Louis
Not only did he recently reach 1,000 games in his NHL career, but he has also been relatively successful playing for St. Louis since 2017. With the Kraken, he set two of his personal best records for games played in a season: 82 games in the 2017-18 season and 71 in the 2019-2020 season. He also achieved his highest number of goals in a year while in Seattle, with 28 goals in the 2017-18 season, surpassing the 26 he once scored in Philadelphia.
