The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed a top 2025 draft pick to a three-year entry-level contract following a standout OHL season and a gold medal run with Team Canada at the U18 World Championship.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have taken a decisive step in securing their future down the middle by signing one of their most promising young forwards. Ethan Czata, fresh off a standout junior season and a gold medal performance on the international stage, has officially inked a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL team.

Czata, 18, wrapped up an impressive campaign with the Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League, where he showcased not only his offensive instincts but also his ability to contribute in all situations. The Brampton, Ontario native followed up his OHL success by playing a key role for Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, where he helped deliver gold.

In 68 regular-season games with Niagara, Czata notched 21 goals and 34 assists for 55 points, ranking fourth on the team in both goals and total scoring. He also finished tied for second on the club with 12 power-play assists and added four power-play goals, further demonstrating his value on special teams.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 178 pounds, Czata brought a strong mix of size and skill to the IceDogs’ top six. In the playoffs, he added two assists in five games, showing he could contribute when the stakes were high.

Gold Medal momentum with Team Canada

Czata’s season didn’t end with Niagara. Selected to represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF U18 World Championship, he tallied four assists and five points in seven games, helping Canada capture the gold medal. His reliable two-way play and situational awareness earned him praise from scouts and coaches alike.

Drafted 56th overall in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft, Czata has quickly become one of Tampa Bay’s most intriguing forward prospects. His development arc suggests he could push for AHL minutes in the near future, with eyes on cracking the NHL roster in the coming seasons.
