The Edmonton Oilers have an uncertain situation with one of the best NHL players, Connor McDavid. However, there is new information on the contract issue and it might be good for both parties.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman spoke on the 32 Thoughts Podcast about the situation between McDavid and the Oilers. “Team Canada meets next week in Calgary,” Friedman said. “I would expect after Connor McDavid is done there and he goes back to Edmonton, they will work on getting this done.“
McDavid is expected to be in the Oilers’ training camp in mid-September. Hopefully, the contract extension is settled before the training camp. It seems like it can be done, as Team Canada’s meetings ends on August 28th.
According to NHL Insiders, the contract could be either a two-year deal or a four-year deal. The Oilers already know McDavid is not willing to sign an eight-year extension this time.

McDavid is the leader of the team and arguably the best center in the NHL. Hence, putting this contractual issue away before the October 8 season opener is much desired.

In 2024, McDavid played 67 games and scored 100 points, 74 which came by way of assists. McDavid is a 7x All Star and the main reason why the Oilers have been to the last two Stanley Cup Final.
The money is still unknown
While the reports state that both parties would like this deal done sooner rather than later after Team Canada’s Orientation Camp, no one has reported anything on the amount of money on McDavid will get. However, it seems like it will all be settled soon.
