Winning back-to-back NHL Stanley Cups is a huge accomplishment for the Florida Panthers. However, setbacks may arise when it comes to re-signing key players like Sam Bennett and veteran Brad Marchand.
In addition to closely monitoring Marchand’s case, the Panthers have made Bennett a top priority for next season. A two-time Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP is not someone Florida’s front office wants to lose. Still, negotiations remain fluid.
Just hours after winning the championship, during the celebrations, it seemed that talks were on track for an eight-year extension worth close to $8 million per season. Although Bennett’s agent and the front office remain in contact, a recent report suggests a possible setback has emerged.
Will Bennett re-sign with the Panthers?
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, talks about the extension “are slowing down.” Still, although the situation remains the same, negotiations are expected to continue. Bennett had expressed optimism days earlier despite the hiccup.

Bennett’s situation with the Panthers
Sam Bennett has completed a four-year contract with the Panthers and is nearing free agency. His gritty, versatile playstyle was instrumental in helping the team capture the Stanley Cup. If talks don’t lead to a deal, the 29-year-old veteran would become one of the most sought-after players on the market.

Marchand in a similar position
Alongside Bennett’s situation, the Panthers are also monitoring Brad Marchand’s future. The 37-year-old veteran could also become a free agent, but according to NHL insider Nick Alberga, there’s a strong chance the former Boston Bruins star will extend his stay in Florida.
