Chicago Fire FC is fully prepared to compete in the new MLS is Back tournament starting on July 8th at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. After spending the last couple of weeks training, the team is ready to focus on their preliminary round games.

The 2020 MLS schedule was unveiled and Chicago Fire were originally drawn in Group A with Orlando City SC, Inter Miami FC, NYCFC, Nashville SC and Philadelphia Union. The Fire were going to play their first game on July 8th against Nashville SC. However, the game was postponed as the league announced that five of Nashville's players have tested positive for Covid-19. A few days later, MLS confirmed Nashville SC withdrew from the tournament, becoming the second team to exit after FC Dallas.

The league made the decision to move Chicago Fire to Group B to fill the spot left by FC Dallas. This way, the Fire will share the group with Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes. Although they are not the favorites to win the group, the team is ready to defy the odds and compete for a place in the knockout stage.
