Barcelona's lineup without Messi: How will they play the 2021/2022 season?

La Liga 2021-2022 is about to start and there is still no clear picture of what the new Barcelona lineup will be like for this new season. They will suffer without Messi on the field, but life goes on, replacing a top player is hard, it was the same process as with Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Deco, and Puyol.

Ronald Koeman has to clarify who will be the players that will form the new attacking Trio of Barcelona for La Liga, Champions League and the other tournaments. The options are on the table for Koeman with Depay, Agüero and Griezmann. But fansstill have to seehow that trio will play in the new season.

Under the Koeman rule, the Barcelona has undergone severe changes in formation, from the typical 4-3-3 to an experimental 4-2-3-1. Some players are not used to this new style and the last season the team suffered to win some games, with Messi, against weak opponents.

The possibilities are many for this season, but the Barcelona has a good player base to keep going and continue the colorful game that has made people fall in love with the team. Plus there is a lot of talent growing up in La Masia.

Defense (4 or 3): Gerard Pique as “central defender” with support from Lenglet to the right or left according to Koeman’s disposition. The other option is Eric Garcia for the central defense from Manchester City. Alba playing on the left and probably Dest on the right side.

Midfield (defense and attack): The key to Barcelona’s game is the midfield. From this part of the field will be available Emerson, Frankie de Jong along with Busquets and Pedri, the latter is supposed to be the ‘new’Iniesta (rolleyes).

Attack (doubts): It is assumed that the new attacking trio is made up of Griezmann as the main player, but the options to play alongside the French are Memphis Depay and Dembele. Besides the last mentioned ones, Koeman has other attackers available for the new lineup: Agüero, Ansu Fati and Coutinho.

Goalkeepers (all clear): Ter Stegen as the main one, but in case of needing support there will be Neto and Iñaki Peña.
