Neymar has been living probably one of the best moments of his successful career, at least until PSG's huge blow in the UEFA Champions League. The 29-year-old had breathtaking performances this season, and the club wants to secure him before his contract runs out in 2022, as other teams like Barcelona already are interested in him.

Paris' main star alongside Kylian Mbappé finally got close to tasting European glory in 2020. Despite failing to claim the title, it meant a great signal for him. The Brazilian megastar landed in France seeking trophies, and the team proving to be competitive in continental contests was a huge relief for him.

However, their sudden elimination at the hands of Manchester City meant a massive disappointment to those aspirations and it may have an impact in the player's future. After PSG knocked Barcelona and reigning champs Bayern Munich outNeymar was reportedly very close to putting pen to paper to a new deal. However, an important person inside the club didn't seem convinced of that happening yet.

Neymar's renewal is still uncertain while Barcelona are eager to sign him

The world-class left-winger has been recording top performances with the French club. However, everyone in PSG is concerned about his future. Neymar's contract will expire at the end of the 2021/22 season, making his renewal a priority for Paris.

After the sudden improvement showed by the team on the international stage, it was rumored that he was on the verge of accepting a new deal. However, PSG's Sporting Director, Leonardo, addressed this situation to the Spanish TV program El Chiringuito and couldn't confirm a contract extension would be happening: "We have to see everything calmly."

It was quite surprising, as only a few weeks ago people at Paris Saint-Germain seemed to be much more certain about Neymar renewing his contract. With the Parisians already out of the UCL, it is time for them to make decisions about their superstar's future.

Besides, there will be several competitors looking to seduce such a player. The Brazilian's former team, Barcelona, is believed to have a strong interest in bringing Ney back to pursue glory alongside Lionel Messi again.

Neymar has had an outstanding season so far, having been on target 15 times in 27 appearances, while providing 10 assists. He was influential in PSG's massive UCL wins until the semifinals, when they were upset by the Citizens. Almost a year before his contract expires, his future is still uncertain and remains one of the biggest topics in the soccer world.
