The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continues with Matchday 2 in Group A, as Suriname take on tournament favorites Mexico. El Tri sit atop the group standings alongside Costa Rica, both coming off narrow wins in high-scoring openers. Mexico edged out the Dominican Republic 3–2, while Costa Rica claimed a 4–3 victory over Suriname.

Led by coach Javier Aguirre, Mexico are aiming to defend the title they lifted in the previous edition of the tournament. A win over Suriname would virtually guarantee their spot in the knockout stage.

For Suriname, this is a must-win scenario. A second straight loss would leave their hopes of advancing hanging by a thread ahead of a decisive final group-stage matchup against Costa Rica.
