Tokyo 2020 Men’s Volleyball Knockout Stage: Schedule, bracket, and results

TheTokyo 2020 Men’s VolleyballPreliminary Round ended on August 1, 2021, with possible gold medal favoriteteams like the United States eliminated from the tournament. Theydidn’t manage to add a victory to their account in the final Matchday 5, and thus they missed out on a spot in the last eight.

In addition to the US, three other countries bid the Olympics farewell, including their Pool B fellow side Tunisia,Iran, Venezuela. Both Tunisia andVenezuelafailed to win least one game, while Iran and USA both grabbed two victories each, but it was not enough to qualify for the Quarter-Finals.

With a total of 13points, Poland finished first in Pool A, leaving behind Italy with 11 points in second, hosts Japan with eight, and Canada with seven points take the last spot in the nextphase. ROC, Brazil, Argentina, and Franceare the other four other teams that have joined them from Pool B. After the break, on August 3, the teams will all embark on their final journey towards the 2020 Summer Olympics gold.

Tokyo 2020 Men’s Volleyball Knockout Stage Bracket

In each pool, the top two teams will face off against the fourth-placed team. To select which teams will meet each other in each pool, lots will be drawn. This took place following the final match of the preliminary round.

Tokyo 2020 Men’s Volleyball Knockout Stage Format

The group stage is a battle between the twelve teams, who were divided into two pools of six teams. In this stage, the teams will participate in a single round-robin tournament. To proceed to the Knockout Stage, the four highest-ranked teams in each pool will be determined (quarterfinals). It will be the eleventh place team in each pool. The ninth-ranked team in each pool is the fifth-placed team.

Teams will be eliminated directly in the Knockout Stage. Fifth place will go to the losers of the Quarter-Finals games. Those that advance from their respective Quarter-Finalmatches will advance to play in the Semi-Finals. The gold medals will go to the victors of the Semi-Finals, while the bronze medals will go to the losers of those matches.

The top four teams from each of the two Pools advanced to the Tokyo 2020 Men’s Volleyball Knockout Stage. Check out the eight qualified teams:
