Serena Williams is one of the most victorious tennis players of the last 20 years. She has won the US Open six times (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014) and it's one major away from the all-time record of Margaret court (24). With her sister, Venus Williams, she also won the US Open in 1999 and 2009. The bad news for this new edition of the tournament is that Serena Williams won’t be playing in the US Open 2021.

Three appearances at the 2021 Grand Slams: Australia, French Open and Wimbledon. Only in Australia she reached the semifinals. After her short trip at Wimbledon she decided not to play in the rest of the 2021 tournaments and cups, including the 2021 US Open.

Serana Williams has not won a Grand Slam since 2017. That year she won the Australia Open against Angelique Kerber. After that victory she has not won a single tournament on or off the WTA Tour. The last four years have been disappointing for Williams.

Why won’t Serena Williams compete in the US Open 2021?

She will not play in the US OPEN 2021 due to a leg injury, specifically a hamstring tear that has not fully healed. She is a 39-year-old woman, but with an athletic body capable of withstanding games of 3 hours or more. She knows that recovery in her 30s is much slower than when she was much younger.

Serena Williams shared a personal message on Instagram for all her followers referring to why she was not going to play at the Us Open 2021: “After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring, ”.

Due to the hamstring injury she has had to abandon most of the tournaments for the 2021 tour. The tournaments that Serena Williams will not be able to play in in 2021 are: Summer Olympics, Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Miami Open, Madrid Open , Italian Open, Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open, among others.
