Among the rising names on the WTA Tour, Victoria Mboko has been one of the most improved players this season. The teenager, who recently defeated Coco Gauff in Montreal, has steadily climbed the rankings and earned significant wins on tour.

Her victory over Gauff at the 2025 Canadian Open is just the latest result that proves she is one of the players to watch. In fact, Gauff already praised her back in March, when Mboko qualified for Roland Garros, calling her “one of the best athletes on tour.”

She’s obviously a big hitter, can play well, moves pretty well, has a nice backhand, same on the forehand,” Gauff said of the young Canadian. So, here’s what to know about Mboko, who could be one of the surprises of the final stretch of the season.

How old is Victoria Mboko? 

Mboko is 18 years old, but she is going to be 19 years old this month as she was born on August 26, 2006. She was born in North Carolina in the United States, but moved to Toronto as a small child.

Where is Mboko from? 

As we said, she was born in the United States but grew up in Canada, so she represents the latter. According to the WTA official website, she grew up In Toronto watching tennis at Sobeys Stadium.

Mboko’s family 

Victoria Mboko was born into a tennis-loving family. Her parents, Cyprien Mboko and Godee Kitadi, emigrated from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United States in search of stability amid political unrest.

The youngest of four siblings, Victoria grew up surrounded by the sport—her sister Gracia and brother Kevin both competed at the collegiate level. Inspired by their example, she picked up a racquet at just three years old. 

Who is Mboko’s coach?

Mboko is coached by former WTA star Nathalie Tauziat. Over a career spanning nearly two decades, Tauziat captured eight WTA Tour titles and reached 14 additional finals, most notably finishing as the runner-up at Wimbledon in 1998.

Mboko’s career highlights

Victoria Mboko’s breakout 2025 season has been nothing short of remarkable. After starting the year outside the Top 200, she climbed the rankings by winning five ITF singles titles, including a 22-match winning streak without dropping a set. She made her WTA 1000 debut at the Miami Open, where she earned her first Tour-level win, and also recorded a singles victory representing Canada in her Billie Jean King Cup debut.

She qualified for the 2025 French Open and reached the third round with wins over Lulu Sun and Eva Lys. By early June, she had broken into the Top 100, becoming only the third active teenager to do so (after Mirra Andreeva and Maya Joint).
