<h2>What happened to Lonzo Ball?</h2>



Two years have passed since Lonzo Ball last officially stepped onto a basketball court for a game. His knee troubled him for several months, indicating that something serious was going on.



As the player himself stated at the time, his knee had lost all cartilage, which required him to undergo surgery to implant donor cartilage in order to gradually regain its functionality.



“There was no meniscus left, and the bones were rubbing against each other,” Ball said. ‘The cartilage had disappeared, and the bone was damaged, so I had to get a new meniscus from a donor. I had to undergo a bone allograft, and they also had to put in some new cartilage.” Ball stated.

The Bulls tried to put together a competitive squad, and the early results were quite encouraging, up to the point where they even had the best record in the Eastern Conference.



Then, Lonzo Ball’s injury ruined everything, and he will be away from the court for more than two years. That’s why the former <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Los Angeles Lakers </a>guard feels bad for the Bulls organization.

“I feel bad just for the GMs because I feel like they made the perfect team around me,” Ball said. “And I felt like that was the most I’ve ever been involved in an organization and I finally got the perfect team that I felt could fit my game. And play my way and really just do what I wanted to do.”



“So that injury, I’m still going through it right now,” the point guard added. “That one messed me up early just because I felt like we really had a chance and never got to see what it was.”

Of course, it’s not like there’s a lot he can do but continue working on his recovery. But at this point, some believe we might never see him set foot on an NBA court ever again.

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bulls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chicago Bulls</a> have already made it clear that they don’t expect to see PG Lonzo Ball back in an <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> hardwood any time soon, ruling him out for the whole 2023-24 season.



Ball has undergone multiple surgeries on his knee, yet he has made little-to-no progress. He’s still in pain, and it will be a while before he’s ready to partake in basketball activities again, if ever.



That’s why Arturas Karnisovas and the Bulls have reportedly applied for a Designated Player Exception worth $10.2 million, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas alluded to this being a possibility on draft night,” wrote Charania. “The team’s chief basketball executive ruled out Chicago waiving and stretching Ball’s contract but left the door open for applying the disabled player exception, which is the route the team has taken.”



“It’s a no-brainer for the Bulls, who also announced on draft night that Ball is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season,” added Charania. “The exception now gives the capped-out Bulls a tool to sign a player this offseason.”



Truth be told, this only confirms that Ball is closer to being medically forced to retire than to suit up ever again. It’s a shame, but the Bulls will look to find ways to get his salary off their books.

The Lonzo Ball era with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bulls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chicago Bulls </a>was exciting, but it was also short-lived. Ball has experienced multiple setbacks in his recovery. He’s undergone surgery various times, and there’s no logical explanation as to why he continues to be swollen and in pain.



He missed the whole season in 2022-23, and even though he claims his rehab is finally going well, Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas recently admitted that he doesn’t think we’ll see <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba/jaime-jaquez-jr-s-profile-age-height-weight-college-position-and-social-media-20230623-BUS-16154.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the UCLA product</a> take the court next season either.



<h2>Lonzo Ball Won’t Play Next Season</h2>



“He’s recovering nicely. I think last month he got off the crutches, and he’s recovering. During his rehab, everything’s been going well. Going into the offseason, I think our expectation is that he’s not coming back next season, and he’s going to continue his recovery,” Karnisovas said. “If he comes back, it would be great but we’re just going to treat this offseason and getting ready for the season that he’s not going to be back next season.”



“I hope eventually you’re going to see him on the basketball court but I don’t think he’s going to be back next season,” the executive added.

Despite knowing this, the Bulls still didn’t do anything to try and land a new point guard in the NBA Draft or via trade, and the Karnisovas regime is starting to gain a lot of detractors.
