The Indiana Fever will face the Phoenix Mercury tonight at Footprint Center, looking to bounce back from their recent loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. However, All-Star guard Caitlin Clark is not expected to play.

Clark is still recovering from a right groin injury sustained during the Fever’s win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15. The injury has kept her sidelined for Indiana’s last eight games. In total, she has missed 18 WNBA’s regular season matches due to different injuries.

Speaking to ESPN’s NBA Today on August 4, head coach Stephanie White confirmed that Clark’s status is “day-to-day,” and there is no set timeline for her return. “She’s going through the rehab process, and then we want to reintegrate her from a strength and conditioning standpoint before getting her back into basketball activities.

So we’re taking it one day at a time, really slow-rolling it, slow-playing it this time… The most important thing for us is Caitlin’s long-term health and making sure she’s 100% before we put her back on the floor,” White explained.

The 17–13 Fever struggled earlier in the season without Clark but had won five straight entering Tuesday’s game—climbing to fifth place in the standings. This run of success has allowed the team to give Clark more time to recover fully.
