Terence Crawford fears no man, even if the opponent is boxing’s biggest star in Canelo Alvarez. Ahead of their upcoming megafight, ‘Bud’ Crawford sent a chilling message that one could classify not as a threat, but a warning.

Speaking to the media, Crawford’s message was loud and clear. “I’m hunting him, that’s it. I’m hunting everything that he got. I’mma take it come September 13th”. Both fighters are scheduled to fight for the undisputed super middleweight championship of the world that Alvarez currently possess.

Crawford has an unbeaten record of 41-0 with 31 knockouts. He is an absolute machine and will move up weight classes to face Alvarez. Canelo has way more mileage on his career, as he has a 63-2-2 record.

Canelo is facing a true menace

One would think that a guy with 67 fights must’ve seen it all in the ring. While Canelo definitely has shared the squared circle with top-tier boxers, Crawford might be something else. While Canelo is a bit smaller in height, it’s just half-an-inch difference. And while the Mexican has way more fights, he is three years younger than Crawford.

The thing is, Crawford is looking flawless even at his age. In 2023, he danced around Errol Spence Jr. en route to a TKO win and took his undefeated record. Last year, he dominated Israil Madrimov too. His ability to switch stances is a problem for his opponents. He has power from both orthodox and southpaw. Crawford is an expert on defense as well, mixing his slips with a philly shell when in southpaw. This fight won’t be easy for Canelo at all.

It’s not the best matchup for Canelo

According to The Ring pound-for-pound rankings, Crawford is third, while Canelo eighth. For ESPN, Crawford is the second best boxer and Canelo is fifth. This means that, while Alvarez is the champ, he might be viewed as an underdog.

Canelo has fought with top boxers, including a trilogy against Gennady Golovkin. His only two losses came at the hands of an unhittable Floyd Mayweather Jr., whose philly shell defense was a puzzle Alvarez couldn’t solve, and Dmitry Bivol, who used his size advantage to establish his rhythm and outvolumed Canelo.

Well, Crawford does use the philly shell and has great pivots. He is known for making his opponents fight at his speed and on his terms. Canelo will be the stockier guy, which might mean Crawford would have the agility advantage. In that case, Canelo, who loves to counter punch, needs to be really precise, otherwise, his counters will hit nothing but air.
