This season in the NCAAF will not be just another year in Deion Sanders‘ career. For the first time since 2017, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes will not be coaching either of his sons. However, for Coach Prime, this situation brings a certain sense of relief in some ways.
In a recent press conference, Sanders was asked about the unique situation of not having Shedeur and Shilo on his roster. The coach shared his thoughts and feelings on the matter, opening up about the emotional and professional aspects of this new chapter in his coaching career.
“I love it because I only have to wear one hat, and you don’t understand how much I appreciate that,” Sanders said. “When you’re a dad and a coach, you’re wearing two hats. You coach your butt off, but naturally, you’re making sure your kids are alright at the same time, simultaneously.
“I’ve adopted kids on this team that I love to life, and I’m watching them as well, but it’s nothing like your two biological kids. And you can’t help but focus on those young men and see how they’re doing. So it’s different for me. I’m sure it’s different for them, but I’m loving the process. I truly am.”
As Deion highlighted in his comments, coaching his sons was an experience that few can truly enjoy. However, being constantly attentive to other matters, such as their well-being and development, became one of his greatest responsibilities. Moving forward, a new chapter begins in Coach Prime’s career.
Shedeur reflects his feelings after no longer being coached by Deion
After an outstanding campaign where he led the Colorado Buffaloes to a great level, it was clear that Shedeur Sanders’ future would be nothing less than the NFL. Once the season ended, the QB declared himself eligible for the upcoming draft, meaning he will no longer be under the guidance of his father, Deion.
“Me and pops had a good run, but all good things must come to an end,” Shedeur said on his podcast 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders. “The thing is, it’s different if you didn’t know it was going to come to an end one day and it just happened… but you were always ready mentally for that day. It’s not that big of a surprise or that big of a deal, because mentally, I already knew that… I feel like I’ve got the life tools.”
Both Shedeur and his brother Shilo are eagerly awaiting April 24th, when the NFL Draft will finally reveal their futures for the upcoming season. In just a few days, they will learn where their professional careers will begin.
Deion Sanders shares unique reflection on Spring Games
These are times when many College Football coaches have voiced their opinions both in favor of and against playing Spring Games. Deion Sanders was no exception, offering a unique perspective on the matter.
“The Spring Game will be televised on ESPN2 … on the 19th,” Sanders said to the press. “We got to sell this thing out and pack this thing because the way the trend is going, you never know if this is going to be the last spring game. I don’t believe in that. I don’t really want to condone that. I would like to play in the spring. Actually, I (would) like to play against another team in the spring. That’s what I’m trying to do right now.
“To have a competitive (game) against your own guys kind of gets monotonous. You really can’t tell the level of your guys because, you know, it’s the same old, same way. Everybody kind of know each other. Towards the end, I would like to style it like the pros. I would like to practice against someone for a few days, then you have the spring game and I think the public will be satisfied with that tremendously. I think it’s a tremendous idea. I’ve told those personnel who should understand that it’s a tremendous idea.”
