Carson Beck made one of the most talked-about moves of this offseason in NCAAF, leaving the Bulldogs and making a sudden switch to the Miami Hurricanes. The talented QB ended the last season with a serious elbow injury, but his current coach, Mario Cristobal, is confident he’ll be ready for the start of the upcoming season.
The Miami program is going all-in this season to achieve big things, and Carson Beck’s arrival to the starting lineup is a clear signal of that. However, the serious injury he suffered has many questioning how the former Georgia QB will fare in his debut.
In a recent conversation with the press, Mario Cristobal shared his thoughts on the early moves of the talented player alongside his teammates and expressed excitement about what he can bring to the team in this new campaign.
“I don’t know. I know he’s throwing some other things, you know, he’s doing those other rehab contraptions, those balls or whatnot, and it’s right there,” Cristobal said. “I mean, we feel great about it. He’s taking part, not only in walkthrough, but also in team … drills and allowed to hand the ball off for every progression … relentlessly watching film, excited about him … I think you know what I’m saying, we’re getting there. He won’t throw in the spring game.”
Cam Ward’s valuable advice to Beck
Cam Ward is expected to be one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL draft, and much of this is due to his standout season with the Hurricanes. One of the key players in Cristobal’s system last year gave Beck some crucial advice ahead of the start of activities.
“To be yourself,” Ward said of his advice to Beck. “Don’t really look at the stat sheet and what I did this year, because at the end of the day, it wasn’t hard. I mean, you’re talking about a quarterback playing in a coach Dawson offense, you should at least throw thirty touchdowns a year. The previous record was twenty something.
“I did that in four games at UIW and so it’s not hard to break records here. But I think the biggest thing that I would tell Carson is just be himself, and try to win games at the end of the day. They can talk bad (as much as) they want about you, but if you win games you got the one up on them.”
Beck will aim to continue the legacy left by Ward, and even try to surpass him in both individual stats and team achievements. Everyone is expecting a big season with the arrival of the former Georgia Bulldogs star.
