After a 22-19 overtime thriller against the Texas Longhorns, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/georgia-bulldogs">Georgia Bulldogs</a> were crowned SEC champions but walked off Mercedes-Benz Stadium with mixed feelings. As Carson Beck’s MRI results revealed bad news, Dawgs head coach Kirby Smart made a blunt admission about the possibility of rallying behind backup Gunner Stockton.



Losing the starting quarterback can signal any program’s doom in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a>. Ask Florida State fans about it. After the Dawgs QB Carson Beck went down with an upper-body injury before halftime in the SEC Title game, Georgia knew they’d be in for trouble.



Disaster was averted as backup quarterback Gunner Stockton managed to keep the team afloat and lead them on the game-winning drive. However, as the Bulldogs gear up for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">College Football</a> Playoffs, Beck’s absence could prove costly. “But experience is so valuable, and you can’t really get experience in this amount of time. I wish he’d gotten more game experience up to this point in time. There’s not a lot we can do about that right now, so we’re just waiting to find out more information.”

<h2>Beck’s injury update</h2>



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carson-beck">Beck</a> underwent an MRI to conclude what’s his injury timeline would be. The results indicate the quarterback tore his UCL in his right elbow, consequence of a hard sack in the first half’s final play.



It’s still unclear how much time Beck will miss while dealing with the injury. Fortunately Georgia won’t play again until January 1st when they will take on the winner in Indiana and Notre Dame’s matchup. If Beck is not back healthy by then, the Dawgs will rely on backup QB Gunner Stockton.



<h2>Smart’s praise for Stockton</h2>



Stockton was thrust into the SEC Championship in the second half with little to no notice. The Bulldogs had some time to regroup in the locker room after Beck’s injury and quickly shifted to an offense tailored for Stockton. Georgia relied heavily on the rushing attack and it paid dividends. 



However, come playoff time, the Dawgs will need a reliable outlet at quarterback to avoid becoming one-dimensional and too predictable for opposing defenses. Regardless, Smart is confident Stockton can rise to the occasion.

“This kid’s special. He’s a winner,” Smart said during the postgame celebrations. On Sunday he added: “I think his strengths are somewhat different than Carson’s, obviously, but we’ve known that. There’s not a game we don’t go into that we don’t have a plan for Gunner if he were to have to play.

The Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Texas Longhorns in a long-awaited rematch for the SEC Championship. As the Dawgs gear up to face off with the Longhorns, head coach Kirby Smart issued a strong message to the players in Georgia’s program, included quarterback <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carson-beck">Carson Beck</a>.



Texas and Georgia last met on October 19. The Dawgs walked into The Forty Acres and handed the Longhorns their lone loss on the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a> season. Since, the Horns have been red-hot and head into the SEC Title match with a five-game win streak. 



Despite this season’s 30-15 triumph over their upcoming opponents, Smart and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/georgia-bulldogs">Georgia</a> aren’t getting overconfident. Texas has improved a lot since, and partially because of their disappointing loss to the Dawgs.



The Bulldogs had to earn their most recent triumph over their eternal rivals, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, as they prevailed 44-42 after eight overtimes. “We’re going to have to play better than we’ve been playing because Texas is really good,” Smart stated, via On3. “I’m very concerned about everything about Texas because they have an extremely talented roster. They’ve got wideouts, backs. Their defense is elite, one of the best in the country. Special teams are elite.

<h2>Carson Beck’s recent turnaround </h2>



Despite Carson Beck’s shaky season, Coach Smart always stood by the Bulldogs quarterback’s side. Beck closed out the season in great form, making Smart proud. Over his last three outings, Beck totalled 941 passing yards, eleven touchdowns and no interceptions. 



It was quite a turnaround for Beck’s numbers, as he amassed 17 TDs to 12 INTS prior to this season-finale stretch.



<h2>Smart makes something clear on DB Julian Humphrey entering transfer portal</h2>



After losing the starting job to Daniel Harris, the Bulldogs cornerback Julian Humphrey didn’t play during Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech. Days before the SEC Championship, Humphrey announced his decision to enter the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> transfer portal.



Smart made his thoughts clear on the matter and diverted the focus to the big task ahead, the most important game of the year for the Bulldogs.

After the win, quarterback Carson Beck delivered a powerful message, issuing a warning to the rest of the nation about the Bulldogs.

Georgia is firing in all cylinders, once again. Kirby Smart’s team has been brought back to life after the loss to Ole Miss and is now looking as the best contender out of the SEC. <h2>Beck believes team is hitting its prime</h2>



The Bulldogs were always considered a bona fide contender to the National Championship and among the strongest programs in the competitive Southeastern Conference. Despite their losses (to ranked teams and in close matchups), the Dawgs were never taken for granted. However, the last outings have helped the team make a statement.



Beck’s play this year has been under heavy scrutiny, although Smart repeatedly had his team leader’s back. Finally, the quarterback has shown what he’s capable of and strung together all-around convincing performances. However, he credited the team and believes the Dawgs are just getting started.



“I think we’ve really, kind of found our stride kind of late in the season, whether it’s in the run game, and being able to find explosive plays in the pass game, and executing in the red zone. However, against Tennessee Beck had one of his best outings in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> season. Beck completed 62.5% of his passes for 347 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers. He rushed for a touchdown, and didn’t take sacks, as well. His last game without interceptions thrown was on October 5 against Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs played with intensity. The CFP Selection Committee’s decision to exclude them from the playoff picture struck a nerve, and the Dawgs were determined to prove them wrong. “Just decision-making, I think that’s the bottom line,” Smart said, via UGASports.com. “I think I was more pleased after watching the tape than anything, because, he got 73 snaps. I still think that 68 out of 73 in the decision-making process, he did the right thing. And he made some really, really elite plays and throws within it. So, it’s cutting down on the catastrophic ones.”

<h2>Smart on SEC statement on fake injuries</h2>



On November 1, the SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey sent out a memo on the fake injuries issue that took centerstage in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a>. Smart was asked on the topic, and his response set the record straight on how it impacts the Bulldogs’ program.

“We don’t condone that on our team or within our program, so we don’t have to address it,” Smart said. “I respect Commissioner Sankey and what he sends out. We just tell them that if they’re injured stay down and if not, you get up and go play. That’s just our philosophy.”



<h2>Georgia’s road ahead</h2>



The Bulldogs have four remaigning games on their schedule. The Dawgs currently boast a 5-1 conference record, and, albeit a catastrophic collapse, are set to make the Playoffs. The next two matchups will be crucial as Georgia will face two ranked opponents in the SEC.
