After the conclusion of the latest NCAAF season, which saw Ohio State crowned champions, many programs began preparing for what’s next, including the Miami Hurricanes. Carson Beck, former Georgia standout, joined Mario Cristobal’s team, though with uncertainty surrounding when he might take the field due to his injury.
A delicate elbow injury suffered during the SEC Championship Game while playing for the Bulldogs put his immediate future in jeopardy. As a result, the quarterback ultimately had to undergo surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament.
Nevertheless, Hurricanes fans have reason to be hopeful, especially after journalist Jordan McPherson reported via his X account, stating that Cristobal confirmed the quarterback will be available to him immediately.
“Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal said on the Joe Rose Show that QB Carson Beck has been ‘completely cleared’ from his elbow surgery and has been full go basically since the couple weeks after spring practices ended,” the reporter stated via @J_McPherson1126.
During the previous season, Beck connected on 64.7% of his throws, amassing 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He also added 71 rushing yards and a touchdown.
What’s next for the Hurricanes?
The Miami Hurricanes finished the 2024-25 season with a 10-3 record, boasting the nation’s top offense. Their defense however, was a weaker point, allowing 26.7 points per game. So that’s why this season they aim to build on that success, but defensive improvement is key.
Carson Beck, a high-profile transfer from Georgia, takes over at quarterback after Cam Ward’s NFL departure. Ward’s 2024 season was record-breaking, with 4,313 passing yards and 39 touchdowns. Beck, now fully recovered from a UCL injury, inherits a strong offensive line and run game, which should ease his transition.
With Beck’s talent and Mario Cristobal’s leadership, the Hurricanes are projected for another strong season, with an over/under win total of 9.5. Despite losing Ward, the team’s overall depth and Beck’s potential suggest they can surpass last year’s numbers and contend for a College Football Playoff spot.
