The New York Mets took Game 1 of the Subway Series with a hard-fought win over the New York Yankees. While Marcus Stroman gave the visitors a good start on the mound, the Mets overcame early struggles with starter Hagenman and later took advantage of the Bombers’ bullpen issues to steal the victory.
So far, the Mets haven’t announced who will start Game 3, but according to Anthony DiComo, there’s a possibility Brandon Waddell could get the nod. Waddell has appeared in seven games this season—all in relief.
The Mets have been battling pitching issues throughout the series. In Game 1, they allowed 4 runs over 4.1 innings, giving the Yankees an early edge. That’s why someone like Waddell—who has posted a solid 2.55 ERA this season—might provide some much-needed stability.
The second option for Sunday
Another potential option for Sunday’s Game 3 is Brandon Sproat, who’s also being seriously considered by the Mets to start against the Bombers, according to a report by Mike Mayer.
“Sources say Brandon Sproat is a possibility to start for the Mets on Sunday. Sproat has struggled overall this season, but is coming off arguably his best start of the season with six scoreless innings for Triple-A Syracuse,” Mayer reported on X.
What’s next after the Subway Series
The Mets are still aiming to regain control of the NL East after losing ground to the Phillies. But once this Subway Series wraps up, they’ll face another tough challenge on the road against the Baltimore Orioles.
