Everybody seems to be talking about Trevor Bauer nowadays and for very good reasons. With D.J. LeMahieu, George Springer, and even J.T. Realmuto signing new deals, he’s the best free-agent still up for grabs in Major League Baseball.

Trevor Bauer has been in close talks with several teams throughout the past couple of months and has shared a couple of updates on his YouTube channel lately, claiming that he could be pretty close to making a decision.

And, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, it wouldn’t be that tough of a decision to make, as the New York Mets could make him one of the league’s highest earners with a massive offer.

Trevor Bauer Could Sign A Massive Deal With The New York Mets

“The New York Mets have formally offered free-agent starter Trevor Bauer a contract that would make him one of baseball’s highest-paid players on an annual average salary, a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports,” Nightengale reported.

“The deal would approach — but not eclipse — New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole’s $36 million average value on his nine-year, $324 million contract signed a year ago, and it would be much shorter in length, said the person, who was granted anonymity because of the on-going negotiations,” he concluded.

Then again, it seems like the New York Mets are still wary of signing Trevor Bauer given his controversial and outspoken nature on social media as they try to move on from former GM Jared Porter’s sexual harassment scandal.

But if the Mets were willing to offer that kind of money, it’s pretty safe to say that they’d be willing to deal with Bauer’s antics to improve an already impressive rotation boasting Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman, Steven Matz, David Peterson, and Carlos Carrasco.
