The Golden State Warriors went from being the most feared team in the NBA to not even making the playoffs last season, which tells you just how difficult it is to perform at a high level for many years in the league.
The Warriors lost Kevin Durant to free agency, Klay Thompson to a season-ending injury, and both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green missed a lot of games due to nagging pains of their own. Now, however, they’re back at full strength.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that Steve Kerr and the team’s front office is satisfied by the roster they currently have, as GM Bob Myers recently said that the team is looking to make a couple of free-agent signings.
Warriors General Manager Bob Myers Says They Need More Veterans
“[We] do need some veterans still. Our three core guys … are going to have to be the veterans, but we want to give them some older voices, as well, so that’s something we’re going to have to look at in free agency,” Myers told reporters, as quoted by Yahoo! Sports.
Stephen Curry (32) is the older – and longest-tenured – player in the team right now, while Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are both 30. Moreover, just them and Kevon Looney are still with the team after their 3 rings in 5 seasons.
Bob Myers Believes The Dynasty Isn’t Over
Then again, Myers thinks that the dynasty is far from over. Yes, they’re aging and the rest of the league has gotten better over the past year and a half, but they’re still a championship-winning core that knows what it takes to dominate at the ultimate level:
“I believe you can bet on our guys. They’ve proven it. It’s not an unknown. They’ve done it before, so you’d like to believe it can happen again. And I’m excited to see it just as a fan of basketball. I want to see what it is as much as anybody,” He concluded.
The Warriors will also have Andrew Wiggins and the 2nd overall pick of the upcoming NBA Draft to help their winning cause, and while whether they’ll trade them for an All-Star or they keep them is yet to be seen, it’s safe to say that they’re in a privileged position to come back stronger than ever.
