One of the teams that faced significant struggles following the February trade deadline was the Dallas Mavericks. After Luka Doncic’s departure, the team endured a rough patch despite acquiring a standout player like Anthony Davis. Unfortunately, Davis suffered an early injury that forced head coach Jason Kidd to adjust his game plan.
That wasn’t the only setback. In recent weeks, the Mavericks have dealt with several major injuries, including one to Kyrie Irving, who had been leading the team alongside Klay Thompson in the absence of Davis and Doncic. Additionally, Caleb Martin, Jaden Hardy, and Kai Jones have also been sidelined.
However, there’s finally some positive news regarding Davis’ recovery. According to Mavericks insider Joey Mistretta, Davis has been assigned to the Mavericks’ G League affiliate, signaling encouraging progress in his rehabilitation.
This development suggests Davis could be on track for a faster-than-expected return. Initially, the medical report indicated he would miss the remainder of the regular season. However, with ample time remaining on the schedule, his stint with the G League squad could pave the way for an earlier comeback, depending on how his recovery progresses.
Another player joins the G League alongside Davis
With the Mavericks facing ongoing struggles in the regular season, the team’s medical staff is exploring ways to expedite recovery for players dealing with minor injuries. As a result, Davis won’t be the only member of the main roster heading to the G League in the coming days.
According to Mistretta, Jaden Hardy has also been assigned to the Mavericks’ G League affiliate after sustaining an injury last Sunday before the game against the Philadelphia 76ers. With both players working toward a return, Mavericks fans are hopeful their comebacks will boost the team’s playoff push.
Mavericks veteran responds to ‘Fire Nico’ chants
Amid the Mavericks’ injury concerns, some fans have voiced frustration with decisions made by GM Nico Harrison. During Sunday’s game at the American Airlines Center, chants calling for Harrison’s dismissal echoed throughout the arena.
One of the players recently back from injury, PJ Washington, addressed the situation and defended the team’s front office. “At the end of the day, the trades happened, and we understand we have a new team now,” Washington said. “All that ‘fire Nico’ stuff, we’re just sick and tired of hearing it. We just want to go out, play, and have the fans support us.”
