Well, Tom Thibodeau did it again. He convinced the New York Knicks to trade for Derrick Rose, his go-to-guy and the player he’s had in every single team he’s coached in the league ( Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves , and now Knicks). The former NBA MVP is nowhere near the player he was in his prime but he’s still a never-ending source of instant offense off the bench when he’s healthy, so this was a major pickup for the playoff-hungry Knickerbockers, who aren’t done making moves just yet.
The Knicks have put together an impressive defense under coach Thibodeau. They finally have an identity and some of their young players look poised to break out rather sooner than later. For the first time in years, Knicks fans can be hopeful.
While they don’t have what it takes to be a championship contender right now, the Knicks are playing their best basketball in a decade and they could only improve if they keep on making trades.
New York Knicks To Make More Trades After Landing Derrick Rose
So, after landing D-Rose, it seems like Elfrid Payton could be the odd man out of the team, as several contenders have shown interest in his services and he’s not exactly thriving at the Madison Square Garden.
Trading away Payton would allow Frank Ntilikina to work his way back into a starting role, or even allow Rose to be a starter to pair Ntilikina’s tough defensewith standout rookie Immanuel Quickley.
Moreover, some teams have inquired about Julius Randle’s availability but it doesn’t seem like the Knicks are willing to part with ways right now. At least not for a cheap return, as he’s playing at an All-Star level. Whatever the case it is, expect the Knicks to continue being involved in multiple trade rumors as we approach the trade deadline.
