To say that Cam Newton’s tenure with the New England Patriots has been unimpressive would be an understatement. If anything, people still wonder how he wasn’t benched for Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer earlier in the season.

The Patriots missed the playoffs for the first time in two decades. They weren’t even close to winning the division, and while the players who opted-out of the season have a lot of responsibility for this, so does Cam Newton and their offense.

Newton couldn’t get anything going on the air or the ground and it’s clear that his days as a starter in the NFL have come to an end, especially considering he’s set to become a free agent at 31 years old.

Bill Belichick Doesn’t Talk About Cam Newton’s Future With The New England Patriots

Needless to say, there are some rumors floating around indicating that the Patriots have already told Newton that they will be moving on from him. However, coach Bill Belichick didn’t want to entertain the media with any details about this story:

– “There was a report on ESPN today there’s an understanding between you and Cam Newton that you’ll be going in different directions this offseason. Is there an understanding this was Cam’s final game?” asked the reporter.

– “Is that another one of your anonymous reports? Belichick replied.

“That was from Adam Schefter this morning,” the reporter added.

– “I don’t think that’s what Adam said. You should talk to Adam about that then. Great question, thank you,” Belichick concluded.

Well, that’s classic Bill Belichick right there. Then again, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see that the Patriots in fact move on from him. Now, they’ll need to find another gunslinger to lead the way in the post-Tom Brady era, which will be way easier said than done.
