Kyler Murray will once again be tasked with leading the Arizona Cardinals on the field, and many are hoping this will finally be his breakout season. After suffering a serious knee injury two years ago, the QB is eager to showcase his best form in the upcoming NFL season.
In a recent conversation with the press, the former Oklahoma Sooners player expressed confidence about his physical condition, stating that he feels fully ready to take on what lies ahead.
“Honestly, they say, Year 2 (post-knee injury) is the best year, and honestly how I feel right now is as if it never happened,” the QB said via PHNX Sports. “Talking to (offensive coordinator) Drew (Petzing) and Izzy (QBs coach Israel Woolfork), feeling like going into this year I’ll be able to do whatever I want to do.”
In Week 1 of last season, Murray re-aggravated his injury, which, according to him, hindered the natural development of his talent throughout the year. From now on, the talented quarterback is betting on reaching the full extent of his abilities to achieve great things with Jonathan Gannon’s Cardinals.
The areas to improve, according to Murray
Murray knows he hasn’t fully unleashed his talent since arriving in the NFL in 2019. For this year, the talented quarterback revealed to the press where he plans to refine his game in order to feel more productive on offense.
“I do feel like I have to run more next year,” Murray said. “I’m open to running more next year, just because it’s such a weapon, you know, it’s such a weapon. Like when I hand the ball off obviously I hand the ball off to James (Conner), I hand off to Trey (Benson), we’re a very good rushing team, which is a great thing.
“But when Lamar (Jackson) hands the ball off everybody is like ‘Ahh’, like you can relax, Josh (Allen) hands the ball off, ‘Ahh’, you know what I mean? So I think for us, part of the emphasis going into next season is conceptually on time, I feel I’m one of the best in the league.”
McBride expressed excitement on what’s ahead
Trey McBride has become the main headline in recent days after agreeing to a lucrative contract extension with the Cardinals, ensuring his stay alongside the QB for the long term. Regarding this situation, the TE made a major admission about Kyler Murray after securing his future with the franchise.
“Kyler, one of the first guys I talked to, FaceTimed me,” the TE said via NFL.com. “We were able to talk, just rejoice. Really just how excited we are to play with each other for a few more years, to grow, to win, to do all the things that we want to do together. To know that me and him will be here together for a long time was very special.“
