Jerry Jones, you drama-seeking character! For the Dallas Cowboys owner, it wasn’t enough to engage in underhand negotiation tactics, but after Micah Parsons requested a trade, he seems not worried at all. Speaking for the first time since the linebacker made his opinions voiced, the general manager was pretty dismissive.
Reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jones said “I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this” after being asked about Parsons’ situation. Don’t lose sleep? Cowboys fans are shaking in fear at the possibility of losing arguably their best playerdue to Jones not wanting to pay him. Now, they have to see how their owner/GM is as chill as ever.
Parsons is a sensitive guy, he made his opinions known, and one thing is clear: he listens to everything. Hence, the dismissive response by Jones might be taken as a disrespect by the much-disgruntled player.
While the trade request can be a tactic, it can be true
The reason Jones is saying that fans shouldn’t lose sleep is because, much of the time, players use a trade request as a negotiation tactic. Here’s the thing, usually they hand the request and that’s the end of it. Not with Parsons. The former Penn State Nittany Lion posted a lengthy note explaining why he asked to be traded.
In said post, he exposed Jerry and Stephen Jones of trying to strong arm him into a deal, making him have meetings without his agent present or taking public shots at him for being injured. It seems like Parsons is really offended by the way Jerry Jones handles things. Now, it’s another episode of Jones playing down Parsons’ interests.
Fans are not fond of Jones’ words
Needless to say, the fanbase is always going to be pro-team. If the manager, owner, player or coach act against what they believe is the betterment of the team, they will voice their disgust. Well, after all these years, Jones has lost the benefit of the doubt, or so it seems.
“Cowboys fans have been losing sleep for quite a while Jerry” can be found on Schefter’s tweet reporting Jones’ words. There’s also a rhetorical question in the comments. “How are you gonna tell fans not to lose sleep on possibly losing their best player?” Even fans are in desbelief of Jones’ shenanigans. He’s lost all credibility now.
