Star linebacker Micah Parsons officially requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys after contract negotiations broke down. He stated on social media that he no wants to play for the team, and now head coach Brian Schottenheimer has responded.
The situation is critical. Parsons submitted his request directly to vice president Stephen Jones, claiming that the talks were exclusive, involved conflicting narratives and false information created against him, and that his agent was never included in the negotiation process.
The Cowboys are heading into a turbulent preseason as they aim to return to the spotlight after missing the playoffs last season. In that context, Schottenheimer made it clear where he stands on Parsons.
Schottenheimer reacts to Parsons’ trade request
“I talked to Micah. I talked to all of our guys, and had great conversations. I don’t think the situation will be a distraction. Our guys are focused on what we’re trying to build on the field and in the meeting rooms,” coach Schottenheimer said during a press conference, according to NBC Sports.

“I mean, you know, look, it’s going to be talked about, we’ve talked about it anytime you’re sitting in this chair with this organization, there’s gonna be things that are hot topics amongst the masses, but our guys have a very singular focus and that’s getting better, and getting ready to have a hell of a practice today,” Schottenheimer said.

Possible outcomes for the Parsons situation
It’s hard to predict what will happen with Parsons and the Cowboys. While it’s true that Dallas has shown no intention of trading their star linebacker, one possibility is to keep him on the roster under his guaranteed fifth-year option ($24 million in 2025) and later offer the massive deal he’s seeking.
