The Indianapolis Colts are in the middle of a quarterback battle, and one of them might be back in the mix. After suffering a shoulder injury that sidelined him in the OTAs, Anthony Richardson has stated an update on his condition prior to training camps. Daniel Jones might also be interested in this new piece of information.
According to Zach Goodall from CBS Sports, the former Florida Gator spoke to him to reveal new data about his issue. “I’m all good … not really even a bump in the road. I feel like I tripped, I fell. Just got back up and hit the ground running again,” Richardson said.
This is a positive sign for Richardson as he might be losing his starting job to new face Daniel Jones. Richardson has dealt with injuries throughout his career and, when healthy, has failed to deliver on what the Colts expect from him. Richardson was drafted 4th overall in 2023 and might not make it out of his rookie deal before losing his spot as a starter in the NFL.
The QB battle is redeeming just one of the two
Anthony Richardson is looking to live up to what a 4th overall pick should do. Daniel Jones was drafted 6th overall but was shipped by the Giants after failing to turn the franchise around. Now, they are both battling to be the starting signal-caller in Indianapolis, but only one will get redemption.
The injury that Richardson suffered really boosted Jones chance to gain momentum. Now, Richardson has to play catch up despite being the longer tenured quarterback on the roster.
The Colts are entering a whole new era
With the passing of Jim Irsay, a new owner has taken the lead at the Colts. That’s Carlie Irsay-Gordon. With her, a new era might come to the Colts. This puts the front office and coaching staff in the scope. Carlie Irsay-Gordon might not put anyone on the hot seat right now. Howver, she might take action promptly if things don’t go the right way.
