NFL News: Josh Allen weapon makes strong self-criticism about last season with Bills

The Buffalo Bills drafted wide receiver Keon Coleman last season. The rookie had some hype behind him, but after failing to be Josh Allen‘s best weapon, he has now made a tough self-asssesment on his play. The wideout will look to impress and surpass expectations in his second NFL season.

Keon Coleman spent three years in college where his best season in terms of receiving yards was for Michigan State. He racked up 798 yards. However, Coleman transferred to Florida State and he had 658 yards but scored an outstanding 11 touchdowns, which led the ACC.

The Bills saw that and liked it. They selected Coleman in the second round. Standing at 6’4″, Buffalo thought the former Seminole was going to be Allen‘s top target in the red zone.

However, the rookie only got 29 receptions, 556 yards and only 4 TDs in his first NFLseason. Coleman is not happy with that. According to reports from NFL.com, the receiver stated, “You want to know exactly what I see? When that s— trash, you got to be better, simple as that.”

Coleman has the chance to bounce back

Even if his first season wasn’t great, Coleman still had his moments. Week 7 saw him rack up 125 yards. He also missed four games due to injury so the momentum was stopped at its tracks.

However, the Bills are not a stacked team in the WR department. Khalil Shakir led the team with 821 yards and Mack Hollins had the most receiving TDs with 5 in 2024. This means Coleman was second in both categories even if his level was below expectations and injuries interrupted his progress.

The Bills didn’t bring much help for Allen

While Buffalo brought new faces to the receiving corp, none are certified top options. Joshua Palmer is a veteran who has never been a number one option. They also signed Elijah Moore, who couldn’t establish himself on the Browns. The other new name in the room is Laviska Shenault Jr. who has a combined 96 yards in the last two seasons.

This means Coleman has another chance to shine bright and become Allen’s top target. He has to improve on his catch rate, though. While he showed explosiveness and danger outside the numbers, he only caught 50.9% of the passes thrown his way.

If he manages to increase his catches, Allen will feed him more as his ability to accumulate yards after catch is really good. Coleman averaged 7.4 yards after catch per reception, which makes him an absolute threat once he has the ball in his hands.
