One of the Buffalo Bills‘ main objectives for the upcoming season is to reach Super Bowl LX — and, ideally, win the title for the first time. With that goal in mind, the front office is working diligently to build the best possible roster around Josh Allen and his teammates, several of whom have already signed contract extensions.
Expectations are high for the Bills next season after coming so close to Super Bowl LIX. However, the Kansas City Chiefs thwarted their bid for a chance to capture the franchise’s first-ever title. Now, with Allen motivated by his MVP performance and the contract extensions of key players from last season, the team’s focus is on taking that next step.
In addition to the players who have already secured new deals, the Bills also extended the contract of defensive back Christian Benford. Benford, who will remain with the team for the next four years, shared his thoughts on the upcoming season, emphasizing what matters most: winning.
“I don’t feel different. My mindset is still the same. Get to the Super Bowl, be the best in the league,” Benford said after learning of his contract extension. His priorities are clear as the Bills head into the new season.
Another teammate of Allen discusses his contract renewal
Following Benford’s comments on his contract extension with the Bills, another teammate of Allen, running back James Cook, shared his thoughts after Bills GM Brandon Beane addressed the topic of his renewal.
“I just feel like we’re deserving of it. Like, why not? We work our whole lives to get paid. Feed me the big bucks,” Cook said, speaking to Ryan Talbot of New York Upstate. “I want to chase the highest of the highs, and I’m going to keep doing it. I’m going to stand on what I stand on. And I don’t want to feel like a cancer at all. Because I don’t like all that attention and all that. That’s not me, honestly. I’m just standing on business and what I deserve. That’s it. What I deserve.”
Allen reflects on re-signing key teammates
In addition to discussing his role after winning the MVP and the changes he’s gone through, Allen also shared his thoughts on the re-signing of three crucial teammates: Khalil Shakir, Gregory Rousseau, and Terrell Bernard. He praised their importance to the team, highlighting their commitment and contributions.
“I’m very happy for them. All three of those guys absolutely deserve every penny they got,” Allen said. “Selfishly, Khalil [Shakir]—that’s my guy. He’s been huge for us over the last few years. Then TB [Terrell Bernard], he’s obviously the captain of our defense. He’s the heartbeat. Him and Greg are both guys who just do things the right way, whether it’s putting in the work in the training room, the hot tub, the cold tub, whatever it takes.”
