The Kansas City Chiefs have been hit with a $5,582 fine for one of Patrick Mahomes’ teammates, who has worked closely with him this season. The player in question is Isiah Pacheco, the standout running back who unfortunately made a mistake against the Baltimore Ravens.
According to reports, Pacheco was penalized for making unnecessary contact by lowering his head too much. Although no flag was thrown during the play, the league decided to fine Pacheco for the infraction. The play occurred in the third quarter with the Ravens trailing 10-13, on a first and ten with 12:44 remaining on the clock.
Isiah Pacheco isn’t the only one who faced fines after Week 1. The Chiefs franchise was also fined $100,000, and tight end Peyton Hendershot received a fine similar to Pacheco’s but slightly less at $5,472. These fines are related to incidents from the game against the Ravens.
It’s worth noting that Isiah Pacheco joined the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes after being selected in the seventh round with the 251st overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. That year, he started 11 games and scored 5 touchdowns. In 2023, he had his best season to date with the Chiefs, amassing 935 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Other NFL Fines
In addition to the fines issued to the Kansas City Chiefs and their players, the NFL also fined Giants’ Darius Muasau $4,696 for unnecessary roughness following a waist-level tackle that injured Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings.
Dalvin Tomlinson of the Cleveland Browns was fined $22,511 for a hit on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. It was a hard hit, but no flag was thrown. Trevon Diggs of the Cowboys was fined $16,883 for unnecessary roughness in the same game against Cleveland.
Another game with multiple fines was the Week 1 matchup between the Chargers and Raiders, where a brief altercation led to fines for four players: Josh Palmer (Chargers – $11,255), Jack Jones (Raiders – $5,472), Maxx Crosby (Raiders – $11,255), and Marcus Epps (Raiders – $11,817).
