There’s no doubt that Lamar Jackson has established himself as one of the NFL’s premier talents in recent years — even if some still think otherwise. So much so, that when he wasn’t selected as the league MVP last season, his key weapon on the Baltimore Ravens, Rashod Bateman, had some strong words about it.

Last season saw Bills quarterback Josh Allen named the league’s Most Valuable Player, meaning the former Louisville standout couldn’t claim his third MVP trophy. Despite that, Jackson knows he has the full support of his teammates — including the talented wide receiver.

In a recent conversation with The Athletic, Bateman acknowledged his teammate’s talent, making it clear that outside comments don’t affect him at all when it comes to approaching a new season with the Ravens.

“Honestly, whatever they say about Lamar is kind of mind-boggling to us in general,” Bateman said. “If you watched the dude’s highlight tape in college, he threw the ball really, really well. You watch in the NFL, and he’s throwing the ball better than most quarterbacks since he’s been playing. I think they are definitely caught up in him not getting to the Super Bowl, but honestly, that’s hard to even say.”

Rashod Bateman #7 of the Baltimore Ravens celebrates his 49-yard touchdown catch with Lamar Jackson #8 during the third quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on October 21, 2024 in Tampa, Florida.

He also added: “There’s 11 people playing, and it’s hard to put it all on the quarterback, even though that’s the leader of the team. If you really watch football, Lamar does a lot. He gives people jobs, and he saves people’s jobs. Lamar is a special, special generational talent.”

A new challenge for the Ravens

Hope is renewed for the Ravens as they head into the upcoming NFL season, having significantly bolstered both sides of the field. John Harbaugh and his squad will aim to break through the playoff barrier and finally reach the long-awaited Super Bowl.

Lamar Jackson will now have another offensive weapon at his disposal following the arrival of DeAndre Hopkins to the team. While the veteran receiver is in the twilight of his career, he remains confident that he can help his new quarterback make a serious push in the season ahead.

In addition, the recent arrival of Jaire Alexander in Baltimore promises to further strengthen a defense that aims to remain among the league’s best this upcoming season.
