Cam Ward was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the latest NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, a move that clearly signals the franchise’s confidence in the former Hurricanes quarterback. Despite the high expectations, head coach Brian Callahan offered the talented rookie some key advice on what to expect in the upcoming season.
As the first moves unfold during rookie minicamp, all eyes are on Ward and what he and his new teammates can showcase as they step into the league.
During a recent press conference, the Titans’ head coach shared the advice he gave his new quarterback — urging him to embrace the learning process and grow from the inevitable mistakes that will come week by week in this new experience.
“Start small. You know I think the biggest think for young players is just to worry about the next day. Did you get better from your one mistake? Did you make a mistake the day before– and did you correct it the next day? Can you take the stuff from the meeting room out to the grass? And if you’re having trouble with that, then we, as coaches, ask. Where can we fill the gap?,” the HC stated.
The head coach’s perspective is key — he understands that achieving immediate results won’t be easy, even with a highly talented quarterback under center. That’s why staying grounded is essential for a franchise looking to rebuild and gradually reestablish itself as a contender.
The battle for QB1 in Tennessee
While the investment in Cam Ward is significant, there’s no guarantee the former Miami Hurricanes star will remain the starter throughout the entire NFL season. Will Levis, the more experienced option on the roster, could play a key role if called upon.
Ward’s arrival can be seen either as a bold gamble or as the beginning of a long-term process for the franchise. “So far so good with the install process with Cam Ward… This is the beginning of the offseason instruction for Cam and everyone,” the HC stated to the press.
Starting in Week 1, Brian Callahan will have four options to choose from for QB1. Along with the already mentioned Ward, Will Levis, Tim Boyle, and Brandon Allen round out the competition. It will be a matter of time, as the weeks go by, to see who takes the reins of the starting role.
