El Tri manager Gerardo Martino knows he has to change the team’s fortunes and leave behind two disappointing results in the Concacaf Nations League and 2021 Gold Cup.
Although they are heavy favorites to bounce back and have a good run in The Octo, Mexico will have to overcome many absences during this international window. Check out why Herrera is missing the upcoming games.
Why was Hector Herrera not called up by Mexico for the September fixtures?
Following a frustrating defeat in the Gold Cup final, Mexico continued receiving bad news – except for their bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Hector Herrera suffered a strain in a club friendly against Feyenoord and hasn’t recovered yet.
The 31-year-old midfielder hasn’t made it to the start of La Liga and he might take some time to be back in action. Last season, Herrera was hampered by injuries. So now, he’ll focus on recover properly before risking havingany setback.
For their first games in the Final Round of the World Cup Qualifiers, Mexico willmiss a number of players. The likes of Hirving Lozano and Diego Lainez were also ruled out for this international window.
