The Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games are underway, after a thrilling Opening Ceremony took place on Tuesday. Athletes with different disabilities from all around the world will be competing to take home gold medals in 22 sports.
This is the 16th edition of the Paralympics, which were celebrated for the first time in 1960 in Rome. Also, Tokyo is the first city to hold two Paralympic Games, as the city also hosted the 1964 Games.

When will the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics end?
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will conclude on Sunday, September 5, 2021. That day, as its tradition, the Closing Ceremony will be celebrated to pass the torch to the next event: the Winter Paralympic Games 2022 and the Summer Paralympic Games Paris 2024.
But before the end of the Games, there is plenty of action to watch. This year, there were two sports added to the programme: badminton and taekwondo. Also, fans can enjoy other famous sports such as goalball, wheelchair basketball, swimming and the track and field competitions.
The Paralympics 2020 are being celebrated this year after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were originally scheduled to take place between 25 August and 6 September 2020.
