The Chicago Sky are looking to snap a four-game losing streak when they face the Seattle Storm on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena. A major factor in that skid has been the absence of their star, Angel Reese, who has been sidelined with a back injury. But there’s optimism in Chicago that her return could come tonight.
Reese has been dealing with back issues since the All-Star break, appearing in just two games since the season resumed and missing the Sky’s last seven contests. On the team’s latest injury report, she was upgraded to questionable against Seattle.
Adding to the positive signs for Reese, head coach Tyler Marsh noted that she finished yesterday’s practice well and felt good during today’s shootaround. However, he stressed that her availability for tonight remains a game-time decision.
“She looked good in practice yesterday and she came in today feeling pretty good at shootaround. Spirits are high and they’re hopeful. It is a game-time decision for her to play tonight but it’s looking pretty good right now,” Marsh said via Chicago State of Mind Sports.
Chicago enter tonight’s game with an 8–25 record, having dropped nine of its last 10 games. With 11 games left in the regular season, the Sky sit eight games out of the final playoff spot, leaving their postseason hopes hanging by a thread.
Angel Reese’s season at a glance
Despite her recent absence, Reese has been the Sky’s brightest spot this year. She’s averaging 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds (the league’s best mark), 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Without her on the floor, Chicago has gone just 1–9.
The 23-year-old has also made history this season, recording 11 consecutive double-doubles and becoming the first player in WNBA history to post multiple double-double streaks of at least 10 games.
