It's not a secret that Barcelona have struggled to find success in the UEFA Champions League over the past couple of years, and with Lionel Messi's desire to leave the club before the start of this season, it was clear that they had to make some big moves to prevent their project from falling apart.

That's why, according to Sky Sports News, they're trying to lure Argentine striker Sergio 'Kun' Aguero back to Spain, now that he's expected to leave Manchester City after becoming the club's record goal-scorer.

Aguero is well familiar with La Liga, as he became one of the most prolific strikers in the world when he played for Atletico de Madrid. Now, he'd be more than willing to join forces with his lifelong friend and national team teammate, Messi.

Transfer News: Barcelona Reaching Out To Sergio Aguero's Representatives

"It is a huge possibility as far as we know. Sergio Aguero has a desire [to play] for Barcelona. There is no catch. He is 32 years old. He knows perfectly the language, he knows La Liga, he knows the country and one of his best friends in football is Lionel Messi. It is said in Barcelona, Catalonia that there is a huge possibility for Joan Laporta (Barcelona president) to try and convince Messi to stay by signing one of his good friends Sergio Aguero after Luis Suarez left the club last year," the British outlet reported.

Barcelona Hope Messi Stays With Aguero On Board

Messi was on the verge of leaving Barcelona several months ago. Nonetheless, it seems like he's growing fond of the idea of extending his stay at Camp Nou for an extra couple of years, and playing side by side with one of his closest friends would definitely help that cause.

"In the last weeks and last months we have seen Messi more committed and comfortable. He is even fine with Ronald Koeman. We have seen him laughing in the games, winning the Cope del Rey. Now they are in the battle for the La Liga title and although many people said that he could go to Paris Saint-Germain, in my point of view Joan Laporta could be the key."

"Sergio Aguero can be one of the reasons for Messi to stay as Barca needs a striker, goals and needs a better sports project for the future to try to win for example the Copa del Rey, maybe La Liga and especially the Champions League which they have not won since 2015," the report concluded.

While he's not getting any younger, Aguero is still one of the top-tier scorers in Europe and would be a significant upgrade for the Catalans, so we expect these talks to gain more traction in the next couple of weeks.
