Although the NCAAB season has not yet come to an end, many programs that are no longer in the hunt for a title are slowly starting to think ahead. One such team is the Ohio State Buckeyes, where the talented Meechie Johnson plays, and he has made an important decision regarding what’s to come.

One of the most talented point guards of this season has decided to enter the Transfer Portal and commit to the South Carolina Gamecocks for the upcoming season. While it may sound redundant, the former Garfield Heights player will have his second stint at SC.

The news was announced by journalist Wes Mitchell, who, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, reported Johnson’s return to South Carolina, where he played from 2022 to 2024.

“BREAKING: Meechie Johnson has announced his return to South Carolina with two simple words: ‘I’m back.’ Johnson returns to the place where he was second-team All-SEC and had the most success of his career,” Mitchell reported via @WesMitchellGC.

Lamont Paris reunites with a familiar face

Meechie Johnson began his College Basketball journey with the Buckeyes after leaving High School in 2020. He stayed there for two years before moving his talent to the Gamecocks, where he was coached by Lamont Paris.

When the news broke that Johnson would return to play for Ohio State last season, Paris made it clear to the press that there would be no hard feelings regarding the point guard’s decision.

“There’s no such thing as a surprise when it comes to a roster,” Paris said. “No ill will whatsoever. I love the kid. I love his dad. I’ve gotten text messages from both of them. … They’re gonna be family forever. When he gets married, he’s gonna invite me to his wedding and I’m gonna go to it. It’s just a decision he made.”

Once again, the coach and one of his most talented players will reunite, aiming together to restore the Gamecocks to their place among the top contenders in NCAAB.
