For years, Mike ‘Coach K’ Krzyzewski was an absolute institution in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>, and his work with Team USA also made him one of the most respected figures in the sport.



That’s why it was shocking and disappointing to hear that he was finally ready to ride into the sunset. Back in 2021, even his biggest rival, UNC legend Roy Williams tipped his hat to him:



“Everybody knows it’s coming but Mike’s been fantastic for the game of basketball,” Williams said, per Sportskeeda. “He’s been fantastic for college basketball and he’s been fantastic for the ACC. The greatest rivalry in sports: Duke-North Carolina basketball.”

“He’s been a good friend. He’s been a guy I’ve respected a great deal. He made everybody bring their A-game for years and years and years,” he said. “The only thing wrong with Mike Krzyzewski is he doesn’t play golf, and that’s the only thing wrong with him.”



It’s been years since Coach K decided to call it a career and just sit back. Maybe, he’s finally had more than enough time to work on his golf swing and get back at Williams.

To say that this has been a crazy couple of months for <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/aj-dybantsa">AJ Dybantsa</a> would be a huge understatement. He’s been one of the busiest young men in the basketball world.



From travels to support his brand, signing endorsement deals, starting a YouTube Channel, and leading Team USA at the FIBA U-19 World Cup, he’s done a little bit of everything.



However, nothing has been more important than getting ready for his freshman season. That’s why he’s already on campus and getting the work in with his teammates.

“We had a couple practices last week,” Dybantsa told Deseret. “It was optional, but a lot of us opted in. For people who haven’t played together for long, I can definitely see the chemistry getting along … it was just crazy that we haven’t played (together) a lot and the chemistry was still there.”

Of course, basketball is a team sport, but getting everybody on the same page will also be crucial to their success, so it’s nice to see that they’re getting a jump start to the season.



Dybantsa will be in the spotlight from the very beginning. It takes a lot of preparation to deal with that type of pressure, and he’ll have to lean on his teammates as well.

For most of their history, the Duke Blue Devils have been the team everybody loves to hate. That may have to do with their long history of landing the best prospects.



That was especially the case this season, as they were arguably the team to beat in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> because of the plethora of future NBA talent they had in their ranks. 



However, Bruce Pearl has nothing but love for coach Jon Scheyer. That’s why, after watching Tyrese Proctor dominate with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he had plenty of praise for him.

“Proud of Jon here! We were at the NBA Summer League and watched Tyrese demonstrate the rewards of being ready rather than just being drafted. It takes more than just a good tactician to help and inspire young players, and Scheyer has clearly done a solid job in his brief time in charge of the Blue Devils’ basketball program.



Now, it’ll be interesting to see how he works his magic and bounces back after losing so many players to the NBA Draft, including first-overall pick Cooper Flagg.

That’s why schedulemakers and both basketball programs will make the most of that pull. The Arkansas Razorbacks will meet with the Blue Devils in a highly anticipated Thanksgiving matchup.



With that in mind, coach Calipari fired a rather bold prediction about this game. Talking to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, he said it will be the highest-rated game of the decade.

Needless to say, that’s quite a bold prediction. Nevertheless, given all the factors he just mentioned, it seems like he might be right about the unmatched frenzy surrounding this game.



Both the Blue Devils and the Razorbacks enter this season with championship aspirations, but they’ve already learned the hard way that projections are meaningless unless they take care of business on the court.

According to a report by Kendra Andrews of ESPN, she just put pen to paper with a deal with Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league that debuted last season.

Of course, it will be a while before we get to watch Watkins dominate there. She’s not a pro yet, and she will most likely miss the entire season as she continues to nurse her knee.



But one thing’s for sure: Watkins is one of the future faces of the women’s basketball scene, and it only made sense that they got her locked in sooner rather than later.

At the end of the day, that’s unfortunately what those types of games have become. It’s all show and no competition, up to the point where some fans have even called for it to be cancelled.

Led by AJ Dybantsa, Team USA crushed through its opposition en route to the gold medal at the U-19 FIBA World Cup. He dominated when he had to, and he trusted his teammates when needed.



Dybantsa is a highly-decorated player at the youth level, so this wasn’t a new experience for him. Even so, he will always cherish that special feeling and responsibility:



“That was great, because that was my third time doing it. So that was my third gold medal, the third time we’re in another country listening to our anthem, so it was special,” he told Deseret.

On top of winning the gold medal, that type of experience certainly helped with his development as well, as he also got to play with some new teammates and adapt to a different system:

“I just learned how to play with a different group of guys. Some of these guys played on the U18 last year, and I was on the U17, so mixing up guys and playing with different guys, you just got to adapt,” Dybantsa said.



Now, Dybantsa will look to take that same experience to campus. His freshman — and most likely lone — season at BYU will draw a lot of buzz, and he’s ready for that challenge.

Team USA has been used to dominating the international scene for most of history. However, not so long ago, the rest of the world gave USA Basketball some tough lessons.



That was the case again in the latest edition of the FIBA World Cup, and while USA Basketball doesn’t seem to take that tournament as seriously as the Olympics, it was still a wake-up call.



With that in mind, St. John’s coach — and former Greece and Panathinaikos coach — Rick Pitino put Americans on notice with his words about the current and future generation of Greek hoopers.

The rest of the world is closing in the gap on the United States at a somewhat alarming rate, and you just have to take a look at the latest MVP winners to realize that.



Team USA will continue to be the team to beat until proven otherwise, but with other countries finding and developing more and more promising stars by the year, that supremacy could be in serious jeopardy.

It seems crazy to think that it’s been 15 years since DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall wreaked havoc together at Kentucky. It’s even crazier to realize that neither of them is in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> anymore.



Wall struggled with injuries and missed plenty of time in the final stretch of his career. Cousins, on the other hand, drew a bad reputation for his strong character, and injuries also pushed him away.



Cousins’ personality was always a talking point. Even so, John Calipari, his coach, knew that he was also more than worth the risk. That’s what he told NBA teams before the Sacramento Kings eventually took him at No. 5.

DeMarcus Cousins is still active and looks like someone who could contribute to any NBA team, even if it were for limited stretches and coming off the bench in certain matchups.



He will go down as one of the most talented big men in recent history, and it’s sad to see how his reputation may have pushed him away from the game when he still had so much more to give.

There are plenty of reasons to look forward to the upcoming <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> season if you happen to be an Arkansas Razorbacks fan. Even so, they still have some bad news.



The team was initially slated to meet with the Baylor Bears as a part of their non-conference schedule. Unfortunately, it seems like that will no longer be the case, according to coach John Calipari.



The Razorbacks and their fans were looking forward to getting back at the Bears’ 72-67 win from last season. The game took place in a neutral site in Dallas, and they were supposed to meet again in Fayetteville this season.



<h2>Arkansas won’t face Baylor this season</h2>



“I don’t think it will happen this year,” Calipari said, per 247 Sports. “When we filled out the schedule, we kind of moved on from that.”

Multiple reports state that this highly anticipated matchup will most likely have to be pushed to next season. Instead, the Razorbacks will square off with the likes of Louisville, Memphis, and Washington.



Even so, Razorbacks fans can still rest assured that they will have an absolutely bomb of a schedule with countless marquee matchups, and that should get them more than ready for when it counts.

Not so long ago, Gilbert Arenas was making a fool of defenders in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a>. Unfortunately, his questionable life choices made his promising career and prime be short-lived.



Now, his son, Alijah, can do what he didn’t and have a long and successful career in the pros. If you were to ask James Harden, he has everything it takes to be that type of player.



Last summer, the Los Angeles Clippers star admitted that he was a fan of Arenas’ game. He pulled up to watch him play, and he even offered to work out with him if he wanted.

“I saw Alijah this summer,” Harden said, via Last Word on Sports. “He reminded me of myself in the sense that he played against pros while still in high school. I just spoke to him and said, ‘If you ever need anything, reach out, and we can train together. He’s a true student of the game.”

Arenas is now gearing up to do his thing with the USC Trojans. He’s dominated at every level so far, but he’s not going to be the alpha dog in college basketball, at least on paper.



Even so, he already knows what it takes to be great, and with a mentor like Harden and his father, perhaps he could climb his way to the top five of the upcoming NBA Draft.

You can’t talk about basketball history without mentioning Dawn Staley’s name multiple times. She’s not only a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>legend but an institution of the game.



That’s why she was even mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Tom Thibodeau and become the New York Knicks’ head coach. That wasn’t the case, as she stayed with the South Carolina Gamecocks.



Notably, this isn’t the first time that her name has been tangled up in rumors. But despite all the speculation and the flashy lights of the pros, she’s stayed put. Now, we finally know why. 



<h2>Dawn Staley wants to be a team owner, not a coach</h2>



“Over the years, several WNBA teams have gauged my interest in coming on board. I don’t want to coach in the WNBA, never have. If I jump over, I want ownership,” she wrote in her book.

Years ago, she was in the mix to take the reins of the Portland Trail Blazers, but she said that she “appreciated the consideration, but, in the end, it reminded me why coaching young women remains the ideal scenario for me.”



Now, it seems like her goals are pretty clear, and with the WNBA continuing its expansion in the following years, perhaps someone will get her to join an ownership group at one point.

It’s not so usual to see NBA players crave to leave to play overseas. It’s usually the other way around. However, Jonas Valanciunas isn’t like most players, and he wants to return to the Old Continent.



He reportedly reached an agreement on a multi-year deal with Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos, but he’s still under contract in the<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> NBA</a>, and he was recently traded to the Denver Nuggets.



With that in mind, former Greece and Panathinaikos coach — and current St. John’s coach — Rick Pitino shared his honest thoughts on Valanciunas’ potential arrival.

For now, it looks like the Nuggets don’t want to cave, and they know that it could set a dangerous precedent. Barring a shocking turn of events, he’s not going anywhere.



And while he’s not going to play as many minutes because of Nikola Jokic’s presence, Valanciunas could be the type of elite pickup that could help this team get back to the mountaintop.

Curry set an NCAA record for the most three-pointers in a single season and took his small-program college all the way to the March Madness Elite Eight. The rest is history.



Now, he’s trying to give back and make sure that young players from all over the world want to follow in his footsteps and also represent the Wildcats with as much pride as he did.

Fudd will now look to carry her girlfriend’s torch in the upcoming college basketball season, and while those will be some big shoes to fill, she looked more than ready last season.



The Huskies will enter the year as the team to beat in women’s college hoops, and with Fudd also aiming for a career in the WNBA, she will be in the spotlight from day one.
