The Duke Blue Devils lost a plethora of talent to the NBA Draft. From <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> and Kon Knueppel to Khaman Maluach, Sion James and Tyrese Proctor, they will have a tough time getting past those absences.



Fortunately, it seems like they will have their defensive stalwart right back on the court for the start of the season, as Maliq Brown could make his long-anticipated return sooner than expected.



Brown, who missed 13 games last season because of a left shoulder injury and wasn’t a factor in March Madness, is ahead of schedule in his recovery, says coach Jon Scheyer.

“Maliq is weeks ahead of schedule from his surgery, where he’s at,” Scheyer said. “He dislocated his shoulder twice and you have to be really cautious with that. He won’t do contact still for another 4-8 weeks, but he can do everything 5-on-0. He’s shooting, he’s handling, he’s passing. Just seeing him out there is great.”

The 6-foot-9 senior forward will be the Blue Devils’ longest-tenured and most experienced player, not to mention their defensive anchor, so having him back on the court will be a huge boost.



He averaged just 2.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 26 games last season, but his ability to guard multiple positions and defensive prowess were a big factor in this team’s success.

Cameron Boozer has arrived on campus with some big shoes to fill. Not only is he the son of former Duke and NBA big man Carlos Boozer, but he’s supposed to be the face of the program after <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> left.



Fortunately for him, he will be surrounded by talented players, including his twin brother Cayden, and he’ll also have Jon Scheyer’s guidance in what will most likely be his lone season in college.



With that in mind, college basketball analyst Jamie Shaw of On3 dug deep into his tape and the Blue Devils’ roster and projected lineup to predict his freshman-year stats.

“One guy we didn’t even get to touch on was (Cam) Boozer,” said Shaw. “You know, he’s another one kind of along the lines of (Darryn) Peterson where he’s going to come in this year and he’s going to put astronomical numbers from day one. I mean, you can pencil him in for 18 (points), 7.5 (rebounds), and 2.5 assists from the jump and possibly just grow from there. He’s going to be on the biggest stage with Duke. You know, so, he’s going to put up numbers.”

Of course, projections can always fail, and once the players take the court for the first time, everything that has been written and said about them will be pretty much meaningless.



But if his high school tape is any indicator of success, the Duke Blue Devils could have one of the three or maybe even two best players in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> next season.

The NIL and transfer portal era has changed the whole picture in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. While some may argue that this era has changed the game for the worse, others say that it has leveled the field.



Perhaps the truth is somewhere in between. Whatever the case, that’s not for us to debate or decide, but it has certainly forced everybody to make adjustments accordingly.



Some conferences may have benefited more than others. That’s why NBA analyst and editor Tobias Bass believes this might be the most stacked Big 12 freshman class of all time.

“The 2025-26 season is set to be a landmark year for the Big 12, with the league welcoming its most loaded freshman class ever. Ten of the top 24 prospects — and 16 of the top 100, including Arizona’s Koa Peat — are set to bring their talents to the conference,” Bass wrote.

Of course, projections are one thing, and they don’t necessarily mean that all of these players will be stars. Some of them might not even turn pro after just one year.



But for the first time in quite a while, it seems like the Big 12 will feature multiple contenders and will be an absolute blood bath from the very start of the upcoming season.

Given his size, length, and his rare shot-making skills, he’s often been compared to Kevin Durant. They’re both big players with great handles who can score from all three levels.



Nevertheless, after watching him dominate with Team USA during the U-19 FIBA World Cup, Tobias Brass of The Athletic believes he’s actually more similar to Paul George.

While George may not get the credit he deserves nowadays, there was a time when he was one of the best two-way players in the league, and he even overcame a potential career-altering injury.



Of course, Dybatnsa is bigger and may have a higher upside. But even if his floor is similar to Paul George, whoever gets him in the 2026 NBA Draft will land a true gem.

The wait is finally over. For the first time ever, the fans will get to watch <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg </a>on the court and wearing a Dallas Mavericks uniform, even if it doesn’t count.



The first-overall pick will make his debut in the NBA Summer League against Bronny James and the Los Angeles Lakers. He won’t have his star teammates by his side, but it will still be nice to watch him shake off the jitters.



For that, he will have to trust fellow rookie Ryan Nembhard, who excelled at Gonzaga before getting a two-way contract with the Mavs. While his roster spot isn’t guaranteed, it seems like Flagg likes his game.

They didn’t get to face off against one another in college, and they’re clearly projected to have different careers at the next level. Even so, this could be the beginning of a strong partnership.



Nembhard might be on a two-way contract, but with Kyrie Irving out and D’Angelo Russell’s injury woes, perhaps the Mavs will have to turn to him at some point in the season.

UConn had no mercy on the South Carolina Gamecocks in April, beating them 82-59 to win the title. Despite losing Bueckers, they remain strong enough to defend their throne.&nbsp;



Of course, repeating as champions will be way easier said than done, but with this roster and coach Geno Auriemma, they should continue to be the team to beat in college basketball.

Caitlin Clark has shown off her impressive abilities since she was in high school, where she spent time playing basketball and soccer. The future WNBA star was meant for greatness, but it took some time for people to realize it.

After entering the WNBA as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft, Caitlin Clark remained close to her old team. She even paid a special visit to it during the offseason.

“For me, the sort of visual media marketing face of the team is Azzi Fudd,” Baker said. “It doesn’t necessarily mean I think Fudd is the better player, though she’s a tremendously talented player. I think Sarah Strong’s upside, combined with Azzi’s injury history, makes me think that Strong is the player that’s going to maybe accomplish more by the time she finishes at UConn and could perhaps have a stronger resume than Azzi Fudd.”

Azzi Fudd went from playing 17 games in 2022-23 and 2023-24 to playing 34 in the 2024-25 campaign. She averaged 13.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.&nbsp;



With Bueckers out of the picture, Geno Auriemma’s team will need a new face, and it seems like this is a good problem for the veteran coach. Fudd and Strong are two incredible players, but it seems as though the forward has a higher ceiling than the guard.

Cameron Boozer is about to start his collegiate career with the Duke Blue Devils, a team coming off a Final Four appearance in the 2025 March Madness tournament. Led by Cooper Flagg, the iconic program, led by Jon Scheyer, went all the way to the semifinal, where the Houston Cougars stopped them to advance to the championship game.



Flagg is officially a member of the Dallas Mavericks, leaving a void on his former team. The Blue Devils added a couple of intriguing pieces for the 2025-26 season, starting with Boozer, a five-star recruit ranked the No. 3 player in the country.



Comparisons between Boozer and Flagg are already here. College basketball analyst Matt Norlander believes that Boozer will fill Flagg’s shoes in his freshman season. During Friday’s episode of the CBS Sports HQ, Norlander shared his expectations for the forward.

“He’s more powerful than Flagg, he’s a better rebounder than Flagg. I could argue he’s a better rim protector than Flagg,” Norlander said.

Boozer is already in the gym, preparing for a new season. He’s coming off shooting 43% from deep in his final high school year, but Boozer is working to improve his long-range shooting.



The Blue Devils’ official X account shared a video of the freshman working in his game. Boozer’s 3-point shooting appeared to be a focus of attention during his drills. He’s a menace near the rim and a terrific rebounder. If he manages to unlock his 3-point shooting, Boozer will be one of the most sought-after players in the 2026 NBA Draft.

The Duke Blue Devils had the most-talked-about player in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a> this season. Cooper Flagg was a one-man show, even in a team stacked with talent.



That’s why now that he’s taken his talents to the Dallas Mavericks, there’s a big void in Jon Scheyer’s team. The Blue Devils lost five players to the NBA Draft, and that’s going to be hard to overcome.



Even so, NCAA analyst Matt Norlander of CBS Sports doesn’t seem to be that worried. In his latest column, he argued that freshman Cameron Boozer would be more than capable of picking up the slack because of his Duke heritage.

“There’s not been a player that has been affected and literally won more than Cameron Boozer,” Norlander argued. “He brings a high degree of winning. Obviously, there’s a pedigree with his father having played at Duke.”

Of course, every player is unique, and Boozer and Flagg are both great and promising in their own ways. Even so, it’s nice to know that the Blue Devils will have someone to pick up the slack.



Boozer will be joined by his twin brother Cayden, who, despite not being as highly-touted as a prospect as he is, is also projected to be a lottery pick and an impactful player in Durham.

Perhaps they should just take a page out of Geno Auriemma’s book. In a recent interview with NILosophy, former UConn star Paige Bueckers revealed how the program and her coach dealt with this situation.

The Dallas Wings young star also said that coach Geno Auriemma was actually quite supportive of his players getting money, as long as that wasn’t the reason why they chose to play for the Huskies:



“He was very receptive to everything going on,” Bueckers continued. “But at the end of the day, he always wanted our priorities to be basketball. IF you’re coming to UConn for money, you’re not coming to the right place. He would always joke, ‘You’re making more money than me now. Why do you need me?’ He’s just joking, but he was happy for us.” 



That’s classic Coach Ariemma right there. But at the end of the day, all he demanded from his players was hard work and commitment, so there was no need to worry about their finances as well.

BYU freshman AJ Dybtansa hasn’t set one foot on the court for his first — and most likely lone — year in<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> college basketball</a>, but he’s already penciled in as a superstar.



However, despite watching him dominate for Team USA during the U-19 FIBA World Cup, some of his critics are nitpicking and trying to look down on him and his nearly 17 points per game.



Some have questioned Dybantsa’s tendency to score when the game is already out of reach, as opposed to taking over from the jump. That’s why ESPN insider Fran Fraschilla took to X to set the record straight.

Reports from Team USA scrimmages have been quite positive, with Dybantsa looking like a man among toddlers more often than not. Also, it’s not like he hasn’t done his job when he hasn’t scored.



At the end of the day, players will always have critics. And the only way to shut the doubters up once and for all will be to dominate in big moments, both in the tournament and in college.

For years, John Calipari made sure to get the finest recruits for the Kentucky Wildcats. More than that, he put the players in a position to showcase their skills and make their way to the pros.



Mark Pope, on the other hand, hasn’t had the same caliber of recruits on his team so far, which is perhaps why he’s taken more of a collective approach to his offensive system.



At least, that’s how former Wildcats star and NBA player Darius Miller feels. When asked about Coach Pope and how he stacked up with Coach Cal, he shared his honest assessment of both.

At the end of the day, every coach has their own philosophy and style. You can have the same roster and assistant coaches and take an entirely different approach.



Pope knew that he was getting into a tricky road when he took the reins of the Wildcats, but so far, it seems like the early returns have been fairly encouraging in Lexington.

Now, Jon Scheyer will need everybody to step up to make up for the players he lost to the pros. That’s especially true when we talk about five-star recruit Cameron Boozer.



Boozer should be the focal point of the Blue Devils’ offense as a freshman. With that in mind, Rodd Baxley of the Fayetteville Observer believes he’s going to draw enough buzz to become a top-three pick in 2026.

“A winner on the travel circuit and as a high school player in Miami, Boozer will be the centerpiece of a roster that has to replace its starting lineup,” wrote Baxley. “The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward will be among the favorites to be ACC Player of the Year and an All-American as a freshman. As a scorer on multiple levels, elite rebounder and versatile defender, Boozer is exactly the type of player NBA teams are aiming to build around. He’ll most likely be a top-3 pick in 2026.”

Needless to say, a lot can go sideways from today until the day of the big event, so it might be way too early to determine that Boozer will definitely be taken in the top three.



Nevertheless, judging off talent alone, it’s hard to argue that he’s one of the three best players about to take the court in college. We’ll have to wait and see, but he has the makings of a star.
