The dream of becoming the new <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">NCAA</a> champions finally came to an end for the Duke Blue Devils. The defeat at the hands of the Houston Cougars left Jon Scheyer‘s squad empty-handed, and it was the head coach himself who took full responsibility after the game.


 


Perhaps the final score of 70-67 doesn’t fully reflect the flow of the game, where <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg">Cooper Flagg</a>‘s team was slightly better than their opponents in several stretches. However, key mistakes from Duke led to a 25-9 run for the Cougars, who took full advantage of the situation.



Scheyer didn’t hide his frustration after his team’s elimination from this March Madness and, in a press conversation, delivered a strong five-word self-criticism: “I didn’t help them enough,” the head coach said.



Could more have been contributed from the sideline in moments of struggle? Perhaps. In any case, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/duke">Duke</a> showed it was up to the task despite the defeat, handling the situation with professionalism and already thinking about what’s next.

“This is part of it. You’ve got handle the wins, and you’ve got to handle the losses too,” Jon Scheyer also added.

<h2>The disappointment with the final result</h2>



Losses are always painful, even more so when the outcome was favorable for much of the game. This was one of the main reasons why coach Jon Scheyer ended up disappointed with how the game against the Cougars unfolded.



“It’s been a special ride that ended in a heartbreaking way. Frankly, the game, we did what we wanted to do. I thought our guys followed the game plan, controlled the game, we had the lead for 35 minutes,” Scheyer said to the press. “It’s heartbreaking. It’s incredibly disappointing. There’s a lot of pain that comes with this.


 


“That’s what the tournament is all about. You’re an inch away from the national championship game,” he finally concluded.

The news was shared by Jack Pilgrim, who, through his X (formerly Twitter) account, provided more details about the latest move made by the Missouri City native.

<h2>Pope’s challenge with the Wildcats</h2>



Mark Pope’s arrival at the helm of the Kentucky Wildcats’ first team came after the departure of then HC John Calipari, who decided to join Arkansas. In his first season as head coach, he managed to lead his team to the Sweet 16, and he hopes to improve the results in the following season.

An avid gamer, he played only 11 varsity high school games and was essentially forced to move across the country to a JUCO in Arizona by his mother, after standing out in an exposure camp for Dominican players in New York.”

“I love the culture Dusty May has brought to every team that he’s coached,” Lendeborg said, per ESPN. “When I first started watching college basketball, it was FAU.”



In addition, he expressed his intentions to take confident steps in his career and to go to places where he truly has the opportunity to showcase all his talent on the court.



“Make sure I am in a good spot. I would prefer to play college basketball in Ann Arbor than be in and out of the G League on a two-way. I want to find a safe spot,” the forward added.

“I was more into video games than basketball for most of my life,” Lendeborg said. “I would play 19 hours a day, it was a religion for me. I wasn’t the best student. My mom forced me to get on a plane to Arizona. That was the best thing that ever happened to me. I went from there to UAB, where Andy Kennedy was a father figure for me. This past summer was really the first time I ever had a real organized workout plan. I’m just scratching the surface on the player I can evolve into, and with more work I can reach that potential.”

Over the past year, he’s drawn comparisons to Andrei Kirilenko and Kevin Garnett. Nevertheless, an unnamed Western Conference executive believes he’s more similar to Jayson Tatum.

Of course, they’re both from the same program, so they should be very proud of this comp. Then again, as great a player as Tatum is, he’s not the same type of player Flagg is.

Flagg actually has a higher upside as a defender, and while Tatum is a superstar, the Maine native has the potential to be one of the greatest players to ever lace them up.

The Maine native had been the most spectacular player in the nation this season, and it hasn’t been particularly close. As such, he’s projected to be the first overall pick in the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft.



Nevertheless, an unnamed Western Conference executive isn’t so sure about his bag as a scorer. Talking to ESPN, he questioned his ability to get buckets down the stretch.

“The question about Flagg has always been: How deep is his bag as a shot creator,” asked the executive. “Is he a guy who can go get you a bucket in the late clock? Can you run your offense through him and expect him to be a go-to guy in money time?. Early in the season, I would have said no. He was at his best in the mid-post. There was a lot of bully ball, jump stops and spin moves. He was primarily looking to get to his pull-up when his first move was cut off. It looked a little bit mechanical, a little predetermined.”

Of course, there’s no such thing as a perfect prospect, not even someone as well-rounded as Flagg. There will obviously be some speed bumps along the way, just like with all rookies.

In recent weeks, Baylor star SG/SF VJ Edgecombe has seen his draft stock on the rise, up to the point where he’s now ahead of Rutgers’ Ace Bailey as the third-best prospect entering the league.



That’s why, with the Charlotte Hornets projected to have the third-overall pick, Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report believes they will go after the Bahamian star.

Of course, a lot can happen from now to the actual day of the NBA Draft, and projections can also change after the NBA Draft Lottery. For now, he looks like the third-best player here.

Harper is the son of former NBA champion Ron Harper, and he’s a big-bodied combo guard who can either be the lead playmaker and ball-handler or play off the ball at the two.

But the UConn guard could eclipse her in raw scoring numbers if she can score at least 49 points during the Final Four.”

With that in mind, Alexander O’Riley of Sportskeeda reports that they could pursue RJ Luis Jr.

“There are few better replacements than small forward RJ Luis Jr. if the Arkansas Razorbacks need to replace Adou Theiro. It would be poetic if after the Razorbacks upset St. John’s in March Madness, they successfully brought in their best player through the transfer portal,” he wrote.

Thiero sustained an injury late in the season but is still projected to be taken in the first round of the NBA Draft, and rightfully so. Of course, that puts the program in a tough spot.

The No. 1-seeded Gamecocks made it back to the Final Four for the fifth time in as many years. They took down Duke, and will now measure themselves against fellow No. 1 seed Texas. 



Of course, coach Staley and the players deserve plenty of credit for this. However, she doesn’t want anybody to overlook Jacob Huden, the program’s director of basketball video services:

Long before the start of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> season, even non-hoops fans were raving about <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a>. He was – and still is – the most talked-about player in the nation.



However, as great as he’s been for the Duke Blue Devils, basketball is still a team sport. Also, he’s atop every team’s scouting report, so someone else has to step up as well.



That’s why an unnamed NCAA coach tipped his hat to Kon Knueppel, calling him an ‘awesome Robin’ and highlighting him as Jon Scheyer’s team’s actual unsung hero.

“Knueppel is such an awesome Robin,” one opposing coach familiar with Duke told CBS Sports. “There’s a real Cam Spencer vibe to him in that he’s such a good catch-and-shoot shooter that you have to get all the way to him on a touch. And he’s got such a great shot-fake and such great footwork that, when it’s an even advantage on a drive, he footworks his way to his advantage.”

Like Flagg, Kon Knueppel is now fully expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> NBA</a> Draft, and he should most definitely be in the talk to be a top-ten selection.

Unfortunately for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/texas-am">Texas A&amp;M Aggies</a>, the hope of making a deep run this season in the NCAAB ended quickly after a tough loss to the Michigan Wolverines. The March Madness elimination led to the departure of Buzz Williams, who eventually secured his move to the Maryland Terrapins, and one of his top players, who joined the Transfer Portal.


 


Pharrel Payne, one of the stars of the Aggies in the last <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">College Basketball</a> season, has finally made the decision to leave the program as he looks toward the future and will seek new opportunities in the near term.



The news was reported by NCAAB expert journalist Pete Nakos, who, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, shared the important decision made by the talented forward, who was key for the Texas A&amp;M Aggies last season.



“NEW: Texas A&amp;M forward Pharrel Payne has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Payne averaged 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game this season,” Nakos reported via @PeteNakos_.

<h2>What will be Payne’s next destination?</h2>



Payne’s arrival at the Aggies had a key figure in this story: Buzz Williams. In statements to the press, the forward had previously stated that one of the reasons he joined the program was precisely because of who his coach was.


 


“I would say the first day was open, the first morning, coaches were able to come out and see players,” Payne said to Andrew Hattersley of 24/7 Sports. “Coach Buzz was the first person to come see me. When he told me what they were doing over there at Texas A&amp;M, I wanted to join.”



With the news confirmed of Williams’ arrival as the new head coach at the University of Maryland, many questions arise regarding the potential arrival of the former Minnesota player to the Terrapins, reuniting with his former coach. Will we see this duo together once again for a second consecutive time?

<h2>The difference between the SEC and the Big Ten according to Payne</h2>



Payne was one of only two Big Ten players to average 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in less than 27 minutes of play in the 2023/2024 season. After playing two years at Minnesota, the forward ultimately decided to join Texas A&amp;M last season.


 


When asked by the press if he felt he had made a leap moving from the Big Ten to the SEC, the player was clear with his response: “Compared to the league I was at last year, the Big Ten, I’d say (the SEC is) a complete step up,” he said.
