It took her more time than people anticipated, and her team didn’t even need her to be at her best in the national championship game, but Paige Bueckers is finally a champion.

She will now go down as one of the most decorated players in UConn Huskies’ history, and while she didn’t need that title to get that distinction, it surely helped her case.

That’s why fellow Huskies legend Breanna Stewart wanted to make sure to give her her flowers. Following the big win over South Carolina, the WNBA star gushed about Bueckers and her journey.

Breanna Stewart is happy for Paige Bueckers

“I’m really happy to see Paige get this one,” Stewart said. “She’s been through so much and she continued to fight back through everything. The way she led this team, she wasn’t going to let this end any other way.”

Bueckers just joined Stewart in a very exclusive club as the only two Huskies to earn four all-Final Four selections. She also joined Maya Moore as the only players in NCAA Tournament history to earn four regional MOP selections.

On top of that, she will leave campus as the all-time leader in points per game (19.83), and she’s now another player in a long list of former Huskies taking her talents to the WNBA.
